TL;DR: In this paper, the authors focus on Asian intra-regional trade far exceeds intra-region financial flows, and propose a strategy to promote more diverse and stable capital flows in the region.
Abstract: Asian intraregional trade far exceeds intraregional financial flows. Regional financial integration requires further market development with supportive institutions and common standards. Internal growth generation is important for the region to sustain global growth in the face of continued problems in Europe. Asian savings are large and it is an originator, not just a recipient, of financial flows. Given its population density, acute need for better retirement savings products, and genuine demand for infrastructure, institutional and product innovations that help retain its high savings in the region could meet real needs, while promoting more diverse and stable capital flows.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the determinants of industrial disputes using data for fourteen major states of India over fifteen years from 1981 to 1996 and found that socioeconomic, institutional, and political factors have significant impact on industrial disputes.
Abstract: This paper investigates the determinants of industrial disputes using data for fourteen major states of India over fifteen years from 1981 to 1996. We document that other than purely economic factors (e.g. wages, provident fund and other benefits, and factory size); socio-economic, institutional, and political factors have significant impact on industrial disputes. This supports the political economic view of the trade union behavior. We also provide the evidence that liberalization of Indian economy has enhanced industrial peace. Region specific factors as well as the ideology and characteristics of political parties in power of the state governments influence industrial disputes. Fixed capital per employee and overall growth rate of per capita state domestic products has negligible impact on industrial disputes.

TL;DR: In this article, the incremental price of efficiency for room air conditioners in India is estimated before and after strengthening of efficiency standards, and the results show that there has been a decline in the incremental prices of efficiency in 2016-17 as compared to 2012-13 despite strengthening of the efficiency standards in 2014.
Abstract: Mandatory labelling and periodic revision of efficiency standards have improved the energy efficiency of room air conditioners in India. The impact of standards on the incremental price of efficiency is not well understood due to fragmented data on retail price and energy efficiency. In this study, the incremental price of efficiency for room air conditioners in India is estimated before and after strengthening of efficiency standards. The results show that there has been a decline in the incremental price of efficiency in 2016–17 as compared to 2012–13 despite strengthening of efficiency standards in 2014.

TL;DR: In this article, a review of issues that bring out the historical and regional dimensions complements the analysis on land ownership structure and literacy among Scheduled Castes in rural India in early 1990.
Abstract: The review of issues that bring out the historical and regional dimensions complements the analysis on land ownership structure and literacy among Scheduled Castes (SCS) in rural India in early 1990. The various scenarios help us better understand the composite index that combines inequality in land distribution (Gini) and illiteracy. If literacy is a potent tool and an alternative to landlessness then from the correlation exercise one can infer that it has been less effective for SCs than for total population. While giving policy prescription, a little detour is inevitable, rather necessary. Given the limits to land, propagating literacy a tool with intrinsic and instrumental value and providing alternative income generating assets in the rural non-farm sector becomes essential. Till that materialises one proposes the need to work out the viability and modality of giving illiterate, landless, and assetless agricultural iabourers (females and males) property rights to water.

TL;DR: Mother’s health, availability of adequate balanced diet, drinking water, institutional delivery and exposure to immunization programs are found to have been associated with the observed outcomes, which have translated to poor child health outcomes in some parts of India.
Abstract: This paper based on National Family Health Survey-4 studies the prevalence of anthropometric indices like stunting, wasting, and underweight in India, with especial reference to the districts of Bihar, West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh Though prevalence of stunting and underweight has declined in all states, yet seven out of thirteen states actually witnessed an increase in rates of wasting Mother’s health, availability of adequate balanced diet, drinking water, institutional delivery and exposure to immunization programs are found to have been associated with the observed outcomes In some parts of India, active left winged extremism are hypothesized to have stalled development process in these regions, which have translated to poor child health outcomes Food and nutrition insecurity need to be tackled in these areas Finally this paper advocates for changes in policy prescriptions taking into account geopolitical constraints, for ameliorating the twin problems of food insecurity and under-nutrition
