TL;DR: It is demonstrated that by using the mesh box, oils can be separated and collected from the surface of water repeatedly, and that high separation efficiencies of larger than 92 % are retained for various oils.
Abstract: We report a simple and environment friendly method to fabricate superhydrophobic metallic mesh surfaces for oil/water separation. The obtained mesh surface exhibits superhydrophobicity and superoleophilicity after it was dried in an oven at 200 °C for 10 min. A rough silver layer is formed on the mesh surface after immersion, and the spontaneous adsorption of airborne carbon contaminants on the silver surface lower the surface free energy of the mesh. No low-surface-energy reagents and/or volatile organic solvents are used. In addition, we demonstrate that by using the mesh box, oils can be separated and collected from the surface of water repeatedly, and that high separation efficiencies of larger than 92 % are retained for various oils. Moreover, the superhydrophobic mesh also possesses excellent corrosion resistance and thermal stability. Hence, these superhydrophobic meshes might be good candidates for the practical separation of oil from the surface of water.

TL;DR: In this paper, a hierarchical 1D coupled nanocomposites with high photocatalytic activity was successfully synthesized by a simple and practical electrospinning-assisted route, where CdS nanoparticles were dispersed within the entire surface of the as-electrospun TiO 2 nanofibers, forming the hierarchical heterostructure.

TL;DR: Results of experiments comparing the proposed method and existing state-of-the-art methods by, respectively, using Middlebury and MPI Sintel database test sequences show that the proposedmethod has higher accuracy and better robustness.
Abstract: In this paper, we propose a robust non-local TV- $L^{1}$ optical flow method with occlusion detection to address the problem of weak robustness of optical flow estimation with motion occlusion. First, a TV- $L^{1}$ form for flow estimation is defined using a combination of the brightness constancy and gradient constancy assumptions in the data term and by varying the weight under the Charbonnier function in the smoothing term. Second, to handle the potential risk of the outlier in the flow field, a general non-local term is added in the TV- $L^{1}$ optical flow model to engender the typical non-local TV- $L^{1}$ form. Third, an occlusion detection method based on triangulation is presented to detect the occlusion regions of the sequence. The proposed non-local TV- $L^{1}$ optical flow model is performed in a linearizing iterative scheme using improved median filtering and a coarse-to-fine computing strategy. The results of the complex experiment indicate that the proposed method can overcome the significant influence of non-rigid motion, motion occlusion, and large displacement motion. Results of experiments comparing the proposed method and existing state-of-the-art methods by, respectively, using Middlebury and MPI Sintel database test sequences show that the proposed method has higher accuracy and better robustness.

TL;DR: In this article, a method for the carboxylation of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) via a two-step process was presented, where the hydroxy groups of MWCNTs were first reacted with epichlorohydrin, then with iminodiacetic acid.
Abstract: A method is presented for the carboxylation of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) via a two-step process. The hydroxy groups of MWCNTs were first reacted with epichlorohydrin, then with iminodiacetic acid. The resulting MWCNTs were characterized by means of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The glassy carbon electrode modified with the MWCNTs thus prepared exhibited enhanced electrocatalytic activity and good stability for the determination of guanine and adenine in pH 7.0 phosphate buffer solution. The experimental parameters were optimized, and a direct electrochemical method was developed for the simultaneous determination of guanine and adenine. The detection limits (at S/N = 3) for guanine and adenine are 0.02 and 0.08 μM, respectively. A sensitive method was also developed for the determination of guanine and adenine in calf thymus DNA.
