TL;DR: In this article, a novel porous graphitic carbon nitride (GCN) nanosheet with tunable nitrogen vacancies was synthesized through the thermal treatment of the bulk GCN under an H2 atmosphere.
Abstract: Incorporating vacancies has been demonstrated as an important approach to alter the catalytic properties of photocatalysts. Herein, a novel porous graphitic carbon nitride (GCN) nanosheet with tunable nitrogen vacancies was synthesized through the thermal treatment of the bulk GCN under an H2 atmosphere. The resulting porous nanosheets possessed ∼25 nm in thickness, several hundred nanometers in lateral size, and a high surface area of 114 m2 g–1. The systematic characterization results revealed that the H2 treatment induced the structure distortion of GCN with the creation of nitrogen vacancies. As a result, as-prepared nanosheets exhibited considerably enhanced photoelectrocatalytic performances. After 180 min of simulated sunlight irradiation, only 19.5% of the total organic carbon still remained, while 4-chlorophenol was completely eliminated. This enhanced activity was mainly attributed to the increased specific surface area, improved light absorption, and the effective separation and transfer of pho...

TL;DR: An intermolecular dialkylation of alkenes via a radical process with two distinct C(sp3)─H bonds is described, and it is suggested that the photoredox catalysis serves as a promotion system to allow the Dialkylation to proceed under mild conditions by reducing the oxidation and reduction potentials of the iron intermediates and the reaction partners.
Abstract: The functionalization of unactivated C(sp3)─H bonds represents one of the most powerful and most atom-economical tools for the formation of new carbon-based chemical bonds in synthesis. Although cross-dehydrogenative coupling reactions of two distinct C─H bonds for the formation of carbon-carbon bonds have been well investigated, controlled functionalizations of two or more different C(sp3)─H bonds across a functional group or a molecule (e.g., an alkene or alkyne) in a single reaction remain challenging. Here, we present a three-component dialkylation of alkenes with common alkanes and 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds via synergistic photoredox catalysis and iron catalysis for the synthesis of two functionalized 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds. Mechanistic studies suggest that the photoredox catalysis serves as a promotion system to allow the dialkylation to proceed under mild conditions by reducing the oxidation and reduction potentials of the iron intermediates and the reaction partners.

TL;DR: This research reveals that it is feasible to fabricate superhydrophobic surfaces (SHS) easily and effectively without involving the traditional two-step processes.
Abstract: A simple and universal one-step process bas been developed to render light alloys (including AZ91D Mg alloy, 5083 Al alloy, and TC4 Ti alloy) superhydrophobic by immersing the substrates in a solution containing low-surface-energy molecules of 1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorooctyltrichlorosilane (PFOTS, 20 μL), ethanol (10 mL), and H2O (10 mL for Al and Mg alloy)/H2O2 (15%, 10 mL for Ti alloy). Field-emission scanning electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and water contact angle measurements have been performed to characterize the morphological features, chemical composition, and wettability of the surfaces, respectively. The results indicate that the treated light alloys are rough-structured and covered by PFOTS molecules; consequently, the surfaces show static contact angles higher than 150° and sliding angles lower than 10°. This research reveals that it is feasible to fabricate superhydrophobic surfaces (SHS) easily and effectively without involving the traditional two-step processes. Moreover, ...

TL;DR: The evolution of microhardness, fracture toughness and residual stress of an air plasma-sprayed thermal barrier coating system under thermal cycles was investigated by a modified Vickers indentation instrument coupled with three kinds of indentation models.
Abstract: The evolution of microhardness, fracture toughness and residual stress of an air plasma-sprayed thermal barrier coating system under thermal cycles was investigated by a modified Vickers indentation instrument coupled with three kinds of indentation models. The results show that fracture toughness on the top coating surface after thermal cycles changes from 0.64 to 3.67 MPa m 1/2 , and the corresponding residual stress near the indented region varies from − 36.8 to − 243 MPa. For the interface region of coating and bond coat, fracture toughness in the coating close to interface ranges from 0.11 to 0.81 MPa m 1/2 , and residual stress varies from − 5 to − 30 MPa, which are consistent with available data. For the lateral region of coating, fracture toughness and residual stress display strong gradient characteristics along the thickness direction due to the special layered structure.
