TL;DR: In this article, a study was conducted to evaluate persons' purported ability to detect hidden observers and found that most people (87%) report that covert observation can be detected and that they are unable to detect observation beyond chance.
Abstract: A study was conducted to evaluate persons' purported ability to detect hidden observers. Anecdotally, most people (87%) report that covert observation can be detected. A total of 140 college students individually sat in a room with a two-way mirror and video-monitor camera. They were told that they might be observed for any or all of the subsequent 5 min. Participants noted whether they felt a hidden observer watched them during each minute of the 5-min. session. After the session, students reported if a possible hidden observer watched via a two-way mirror or video camera or if they were not watched. Students were unable to detect observation beyond chance. Possible reasons for the persistence of the belief in detection of covert observation are posited as impetus for further research.

Abstract: Several populations of Black Skimmers (Rynchops niger), colonial waterbirds with a tactile foraging strategy, are declining. Improving our limited knowledge of Black Skimmer foraging ecology has become critical to inform conservation decisions. Black Skimmers were GPS-tracked from the Isles Dernieres Barrier Island Refuge in coastal Louisiana, USA, from 27 June-1 July 2013 and 30 May-2 June 2016, to shed light on their foraging movements during the breeding season. Black Skimmers foraged almost exclusively at night, as far as 16 km from the colony in the coastal marshes of Louisiana, in a home range of 86-256 km2. Additional movement data are needed to identify areas of conservation need and provide a basis for future studies of skimmer response to environmental changes.

Abstract: In Osgood and colleagues (1996), theoretical formulation of unstructured socializing with peers (USWP), namely, the routine activity theory of general deviance posits that spending time in situations with friends, that lack structure, without authority figures present are more conducive to deviance. The present study advances understanding of this situation through use of an initial sample of over 3,500 adolescents from the Gang Resistance Education and Training (GREAT) program to examine whether the relationships between parental knowledge and delinquency/substance use are mediated by USWP and peer delinquency/peer substance use. Results showed that lack of parental knowledge leads to greater USWP, which then leads to peer delinquency/peer substance use to result in individual delinquency/substance use. By better understanding the various ways adolescents who spend time in settings of unstructured socializing with peers engage in delinquency, both parents and societal members can take steps to reduce these behaviors, which lead to deviant behavior
