Abstract: The pervasive potential of artificial intelligence techniques in business scenarios has gained momentum recently through the combination of traditional software engineering disciplines and cutting-edge computer science research areas such as neural networks or genetic algorithms. Following this approach, MORGANA is a platform to perform competence oriented personnel staffing in software projects by means of a multi-objective genetic algorithm. The system is designed to be part of global human and intellectual capital management solutions. The main goal of MORGANA is to assist software project managers, by providing a comprehensible artificial intelligence-based formal framework to optimize efficiency and improve person-role fit.

Abstract: Secure software practices are gradually gaining relevance among software practitioners and researchers. This is happening because today more than ever software is becoming part of our lives and cybercrimes are constantly appearing. Despite its importance, its current practice in the software industry is still scarce. Indeed, software security problems are divided 50/50 between bugs and flaws. In particular, it remains a significant challenge for software practitioners in small software companies. Therefore, there is a need to support small companies in changing their existing ways of work to integrate these new and unfamiliar practices. The aim of this study is twofold. First, to help building an awareness of the software security process among practitioners in small companies. Second, to help the integration of these practices with software implementation process of ISO/IEC 29110 which results in an extension of the latter with additional activities identified from the industry best practices. Nevertheless, the extension proposal is to be performed selectively, based on the value of the software as an asset to the stakeholders and on stakeholders needs.

Abstract: Inferring the similarity between two time-series signals is a key step in several data analysis tasks for a variety of engineering applications. In this paper, we introduce a novel elastic similarity measure (ALoT) based on the alignment of textures, instead of observed values, extracted from input time-series signals. To obtain the texture information, Local Binary Patterns are adapted for one-dimensional signals. According to experiments performed on a large number of benchmark time-series classification datasets, the proposed method achieves higher accuracy than current pairwise similarity measures for several cases in a 1-Nearest Neighbor classification setup.

Abstract: As people normally care about what others think of them, any failures associated with them can be experienced as socially embarrassing. Consequently, they might become motivated to blame someone else for the failure in order to defend against possible criticism from others. In line with this reasoning, a study (N = 129) investigating how people think a family would feel and cope if their son or daughter failed to complete a high-school education was conducted. Specifically, it was expected that people would consider this as an embarrassing experience for the family, and due to this, blame the school for the failure. It was also expected that the link between embarrassment and blame directed at the school to be fully mediated by the feeling of rejection. Implications for research on norm violations and emotions, and implications for professional workers dealing with failure to complete a high-school education are discussed.
