TL;DR: In this paper, the influence of variations in flow Reynolds number on the performance of axial compressors has been studied (changes in Reynolds number being, for the most part, achieved by changes in the inlet total pressure at or near the design speed).
Abstract: The influence of variations in flow Reynolds number on the performance of axial compressors has been studied (changes in Reynolds number being, for the most part, achieved by changes in the inlet total pressure at or near the design speed). The measured results, so achieved, have been correlated to show how the main compressor performance parameters vary with Reynolds number. Reference has been made to cascade data to assist in choosing the form of the correlation, which is essentially empirical. A good correlation of the measured performance changes on component tests has been obtained. The method described, therefore, appears to be satisfactory for predicting trends for project assessments and avoids considering the detailed flow changes that occur within the machine as the Reynolds number is varied.

12 Dec 1978Abstract: A flanged joint structure for enabling a first member made from a fibre re-inforced composite material to be bolted to a second member includes means defining on the first member a continuous flange extending at right angles to the member, and an intermediate connecting portion which is bonded to the first member and which is bonded to the flange along a line which alternately passes above and below the mean plane of the loads applied by the bolts. This construction minimizes bending loads in the flange.

Abstract: Combustion apparatus for reducing objectionable exhaust emissions from gas turbine engines comprises a hollow conical member with an air inlet and fuel injector at its narrower end, the wider end being open into a combustion chamber, the wall of the conical member having a number of orifices for the throughflow of air, the orifices being directed tangentially into the interior of the conical member to impart a swirl to the mixture of fuel and air from the air inlet and fuel injector within the conical member.

25 Apr 1977TL;DR: An attachment bracket for attaching a jet engine to e.g. an aircraft has an extra connecting feature which surrounds one of the existing engine mounting features with a space between them, so that the engine will only move a distance equal to the clearance before being restrained and supported again this article.
Abstract: An attachment bracket for attaching a jet engine to e.g. an aircraft has an extra connecting feature which surrounds one of the existing engine mounting features with a space between them, so that if an existing engine mounting breaks, the engine will only move a distance equal to the clearance before being restrained and supported again.

TL;DR: In this article, the Newton-Raphson technique is used to calculate two-dimensional transonic flow in cascades of compressor and turbine blades using a mesh of triangular finite elements.
Abstract: Steady two-dimensional transonic flow is calculated in cascades of compressor and turbine blades using a mesh of triangular finite elements. A velocity potential is used, the equations being solved by the Newton-Raphson technique. The resulting computer program is fast, and is shown to give good accuracy. Shock waves are well represented, provided they are not too strong.
