TL;DR: In this paper, a bearing chamber is provided with drains on both sides of the bearing thus preventing oil surges spilling oil over the chamber seals, and baffles are provided between the bearings and the end walls of the chamber to prevent the oil sloshing over the entrances to the auxiliary drainage ducts at excessive speed.
Abstract: A bearing chamber is provided with drains on both sides of the bearing thus preventing oil surges spilling oil over the chamber seals. The bearing chamber has three compartments and the chamber is pressurized by air passing through the seals at its ends. A main drainage duct drains the main bearing compartment via a scavenge pump to the oil tank. Passages through the bearings under normal operation drain oil from the end compartments to the central compartment compartment A. When the main drain becomes ineffective due to sudden surges of oil to the ends of the chamber the oil passes via auxiliary drainage ducts back to the tank due to the pressure in the chamber. Baffles are provided between the bearings and the end walls of the chamber to prevent the oil sloshing over the entrances to the auxiliary drainage ducts at excessive speed thereby providing tranquil zones from which the oil passes into the drainage ducts.

TL;DR: A group of nozzles are submerged in a tank of liquid to produce convergent-divergent vortices and cavitation in a liquid which in turn produce acoustic vibrations which assist in cleaning articles placed in the liquid, or in emulsifying a mixture of liquids.
Abstract: A group of nozzles are submerged in a tank of liquid to produce convergent-divergent vortices and cavitation in a liquid which in turn produce acoustic vibrations which assist in cleaning articles placed in the liquid, or in emulsifying a mixture of liquids Each such nozzle comprises a body, with a central axis, an inlet at one end for supply of liquid under pressure thereto, and a plurality of discrete outlet ports at the other end transversely spaced from the central axis, the axes of the ports converging externally of the body towards the central axis whereby liquid supplied to the inlet under pressure emerges from the outlets in discrete jets directed to pass close to but not to intersect the central axis of the body

TL;DR: In this article, a bearing assembly intended for operation in a given temperature range has a radially outer bearing member 16 made of steel and supported in a housing 20 made of a material, e.g. magnesium whose coefficient of thermal expansion is substantially higher than steel.
Abstract: Bearing assembly intended for operation in a given temperature range has a radially outer bearing member 16 made of steel and supported in a housing 20 made of a material, e.g. magnesium whose coefficient of thermal expansion is substantially higher than steel. The member 16 has radially inwardly facing surface 17 adapted to engage a radially outwardly facing surface 22 of the housing. In use, when the temperature of the assembly rises the surface 22 of the housing moves toward the surface 17 of the member 16 so that engagement between the surfaces 17,22 is enhanced or an initial gap 23 between the surfaces 17,22 is closed.

TL;DR: In this article, a blade assembly for use in an axial flow compressor or turbine is described, which includes a disc provided with a circumferential blade root retaining channel in its periphery and an annular array of aerofoil blades having roots located in the channel so that gaps are defined between adjacent roots.
Abstract: A blade assembly for use in an axial flow compressor or turbine. The blade assembly includes a disc provided with a circumferential blade root retaining channel in its periphery and an annular array of aerofoil blades having roots located in the channel so that gaps are defined between adjacent roots. Each root is provided with two circumferentially extending sealing skirts which are arranged so that they cooperate with the blade roots to define an annular sealing surface which is in operation in sealing engagement with an annular portion of the internal surface of the root retaining channel.
