TL;DR: This article described work being done at Ahfad University for Women in Omdurman, Sudan, to document and catalog indigenous knowledge (IK) materials, and recognized their roles in the incorporation of IK into the scientific knowledge system with which they are familiar.
Abstract: This article describes work being done at Ahfad University for Women in Omdurman, Sudan, to document and catalog indigenous knowledge (IK) materials. The recognition and appreciation of IK taps into the intellectual resources associated with it. Librarians, as major workers in the knowledge society, have to recognize their roles in the incorporation of IK into the “scientific knowledge system” with which they are familiar.

TL;DR: In this paper, a study was conducted to find out the Life Satisfaction, Personal Growth Initiative and the role of hope in Alcoholics, the statistical analysis was carried out using MS-Excel operation.
Abstract: The study was conducted to find out the Life Satisfaction, Personal Growth Initiative and the role of Hope in Alcoholics. The sample population chosen for this study was, 50 adults diagnosed with alcoholism aged 20-50 years The tools of assessment used were Satisfaction with Life Scale (Diener et al., 1985); The Personal Growth Initiative Scale (Robitschek, 1998); and the Adult Trait Hope Scale (Snyder et al., 1991). The statistical tool used for the study was Pearson Product Moment correlation. The statistical analysis was carried out using MS-Excel operation. It was found that there were also strong correlations established within the dependent variables of the study, namely Life Satisfaction, Personal Growth Initiative and Hope.

01 Sep 2015TL;DR: In this article, the authors presented basic architecture, working principle, advantage, and disadvantage of the OCDMA system in details, and proposed a time domain OCDMA PON architecture for 2048 optical network units (ONUs) at 60 km reach at 2.5 Gb/s bit rate.
Abstract: Optical code-division multiple access (OCDMA) is one of the alternatives to time-division multiple access (TDM) and wavelength-division multiple (WDM) access in passive optical network (PON) systems as in this multiple users can share the same channel at the same time by assigning different codes to each user. This paper presents basic architecture, working principle, advantage, and disadvantage of the OCDMA system in details. Next, Time domain OCDMA PON architecture for 2048 optical network units (ONUs) at 60 km reach at 2.5 Gb/s bit rate is proposed. The simulated model is investigated for different number of users and transmission distance in terms of BER and Q-factor. The result shows that the simulated model can support up to 2048 users with acceptable BER and Q-factor. Also, multi-access interference effect on proposed architecture is studied. The simulation is carried out using Optsim.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors focus on the nature of Diaspora entrepreneurship and suggest the framework of mechanism through which donors and international development agencies can constructively promote its developmental impact, and conclude that governments, multilateral institutions, and other civil society groups can help entrepreneurs to tap the resources they need and clear obstacles to realizing their ventures and accelerating economic growth.
Abstract: A Diaspora is a large group of people with a similar heritage or homeland who have since moved out to places all over the world. It can also refer to the movement of the population from its original homeland. The study of Diasporas provides a useful frame for reimagining locations, movements, identities, and social formations. Diasporas are in a unique position to have a positive effect on the economy of their countries of origin if policymakers there seize the opportunities. Despite the advantages that these entrepreneurs bring, many developing countries have met only limited success in attracting them. Countries with governments that still require aspiring entrepreneurs to follow complex procedures, countries at war, or those experiencing internal conflict and social upheaval remain unattractive to all but the most intrepid Diaspora private investors and business people. This paper primarily aims to give an insight into the nature of Diaspora entrepreneurship. Also, it suggests the framework of mechanism through which donors and international development agencies can constructively promote its developmental impact. Three examples of venture capital and partnership organizations have been quoted. Secondary data have been used in this presentation and nature of analysis is descriptive. The paper concludes that governments, multilateral institutions, Diaspora organizations, and other civil society groups can help Diaspora entrepreneurs to tap the resources they need and clear obstacles to realizing their ventures and accelerating economic growth. Peace, stability, and construction of basic infrastructure are prerequisites for substantial Diaspora investment, as they are for so many other development processes.

01 Jan 2019TL;DR: This paper discusses and evaluates the performance of LSA for DAA, through experimentation and deep investigations, and finds that the general behavior of Lsa has an adverse impact on DAA.
Abstract: Latent Semantic Analysis (LSA), in general, can be considered as an excellent information retrieval technique, but for this specific task of Descriptive Answer Assessment (DAA) some more explorations are required and it is still considered as an open problem. This paper discusses and evaluates the performance of LSA for DAA, through experimentation and deep investigations. Several state-of-the-art claim that LSA correlates with the human assessor’s way of assessment. With this as background, we investigated assessment of students’ descriptive answer using Latent Semantic Analysis (LSA). In the course of research, it was discovered that LSA has limitations like: LSA research usually involves heterogeneous text (text from various domains) which may include irrelevant terms that are highly susceptible to noisy, missing and inconsistent data. The experiments revealed that the general behavior of LSA has an adverse impact on DAA. It has also been observed that factors which influence the performance of LSA are corpus preprocessing, the creation of term-document matrix with and without weight function and choice of dimensionality.
