01 Mar 2017TL;DR: In this article, different compositions were designed to evaluate the effect of using industrial grade functionalised multi-walled carbon nanotube (F-MWCNT) in MgO-C refractory.
Abstract: A growing requirement to make low or ultra-low carbon steel has resulted in strong demand for lower carbon content in the MgO-C refractory lining materials of metallurgical vessels. Incorporation of carbon nanostructure materials is expected to reduce the total carbon content of refractory bricks due to their very high specific surface area compared to other carbon precursor materials. It will also help to significantly enhance both the corrosion and thermo-mechanical behaviour of refractories. Different compositions were designed to evaluate the effect of using industrial grade functionalised multi-walled carbon nanotube (F-MWCNT) in MgO-C refractory. Samples containing an appropriate combination of graphite and F-MWCNT produced the most impressive results. Based on the study, brick was developed for a panel trial in a 300-t ladle of BSL (Bokaro Steel Plant) at SAIL (Steel Authority of India Limited). The average erosion rate of carbon nanostructure-containing MgO-C brick refractory was observed to be about 28 mass-% less than that of conventional MgO-C bricks.

01 Dec 2012TL;DR: Object of the NBDP is to use PPM to encode analog signals as non-binary data and process in parallel those non- binary data to create uniprocessor environment in a multiprocesser and multivariable environment; with future possibility of direct hardware realization of complex mathematical functions.
Abstract: The multiprocessor and multivariate environment will be simplified with non-binary data processor (NBDP) that can read, process, and output in parallel multiple variables encoded with pulse position modulation (PPM) without intermediate A/D and digital-to-analog (D/A) converters. The NBDP defined herein is an improvement of Von Neumann Architecture. Variables are encoded as the time gap between start pulse (SP) and end pulse (EP). SP and EP are pulses of opposite polarities. Polarity of SP is sign of digit represented. NBDP has addition/subtraction unit incorporated with look-ahead-carry generation. Two monostable multivibrators in inverse parallel connection serve as temporary storage. Object of the NBDP is to use PPM to encode analog signals as non-binary data and process in parallel those non-binary data to create uniprocessor environment in a multiprocessor and multivariable environment; with future possibility of direct hardware realization of complex mathematical functions.

TL;DR: The framework of system design, interrogation procedures and features of the Iron and Steel Online (Isoline) search system developed with the goal of providing nationwide information services in the field of iron and steel are discussed.
Abstract: This article discusses briefly the framework of system design, interrogation procedures and features of the Iron and Steel Online (Isoline) search system developed with the goal of providing nationwide information services in the field of iron and steel. Isoline operates on Metadex and incorporates a variety of interrogation facilities ranging from assisting novice users to instantaneous performance evaluation and search request reformulation. The methodology adopted for the problem identifies component processes and prescribes sixteen commands as an approach to these processes. The system is in‐built with extensive diagnostic error analysis and control abstraction as well as with enhanced versatility and flexibility that provide an effective user interface.

TL;DR: In this article, annealed En-8 steel was used to estimate the fatigue damage response during cyclic loading nearer to the fatigue endurance limit, with the aid of a nondestructive testing method.
Abstract: Generally, the failure of major machinery parts is due to fatigue damage Because of the structural inhomogeneity of metals, fatigue damage may sometimes occur significantly below the yield strength of the material due to microplastic deformation at low stress levels Commercial En-8 grade steel (widely used for making secondary metalworking products) was used to estimate the fatigue damage response during cyclic loading nearer to the fatigue endurance limit Estimation of fatigue damage was carried out with the aid of a nondestructive testing (NDT) method, that is, Elastosonic measurement of fatigue damping coefficient and slope of fatigue damping curves Results indicate that fatigue damage increases in annealed En-8 steel with an increase in peak stress and with an increase in the number of cycles However, for hardened and tempered En-8 steel, experimental results may not provide a true indication of fatigue damage during fatigue loading nearer to the endurance limit, most likely due to the more homogeneous structure Generally, fatigue failure occurs in this grade of steel due to microcrack generation in the cementite of the pearlite phase of annealed steel
