TL;DR: In this article, a brick was developed for trial in the preheating-zone hearth of the reheating furnace of the merchant mill of SAIL's Durgapur Steel Plant (DSP).
Abstract: Abstract: Reheating furnaces are used in steel plants for the heating of billets, blooms and slabs. The furnace hearth has to withstand very high abrasion, thermal shock and vibration during operation. The hearth refractory should also have high volume stability and high strength. Sometimes steel plants opt for a more costly/higher grade refractory in the preheating-zone hearth of the furnace to match the hearth life with other zones of the furnace. Different compositions of high-alumina bricks were designed to obtain the required properties at optimum cost. It was found that the properties of bricks with the optimum amount of the selected sintering aid were the most impressive. On the basis of our study, a brick was developed for trial in the preheating-zone hearth of the reheating furnace of merchant mill of SAIL’s Durgapur Steel Plant (DSP). It was observed that the developed bricks of the preheating zone have comparable erosion to high-grade refractories of other zones of the furnace.

TL;DR: In this paper, NaCl and CaCl2 additions to liquid hypereutectoid steel cause appreciable removal of inclusions and a small amount of graphitization also occurs due to this treatment.
Abstract: NaCl and CaCl2 additions to liquid hypereutectoid steel cause appreciable removal of inclusions. A small amount of graphitization also occurs due to this treatment. While the low-temperature impact properties of the steel improve appreciably following NaCl treatment, CaCl2 treatment leads to deterioration of these properties.

TL;DR: In this paper, a three-dimensional mathematical model is validated and established for studying the fluid flow inside a beam blank mold. But the results of the model were not validated with the results available in public domain.
Abstract: A three-dimensional mathematical model is validated and established for studying the fluid flow inside a beam blank mould. Comparison of the model result with results available in public domain is done to validate the numerical analysis technique. Flow characteristics of a 430 mm × 350 mm × 90 mm beam blank mould have been studied with five different SEF configurations, namely (a) straight bore, (b) 2 ports–no central bore, (c) 2 ports–1 central bore, (d) 3 ports–no central bore and (e) 3 ports–1 central bore. The mould flow analysis with different SEFs reflects that with straight bore SEF, problem of inactive meniscus is dominant. Both types of 2-port SEF’s flange region experiences a high impact velocity from incoming steel jet. The 3-port SEF without central bore leads to high velocities on both the flange and web region. The 3-port SEF with central bore is found to satisfy all the mould flow criteria and suggests a stable mould fluid flow.

01 Jan 2018TL;DR: In this paper, the efforts made for improvement and optimization of steelmaking and rolling practices for the production of special quality high-strength plates such as IS 2062, E350/E410/E450 and API X70, etc.
Abstract: The production of value-added plates with stringent international standards has been established at RSP, Rourkela through new plate mill The mill is equipped with state-of-the-art technology to produce up to 42 m wide plates with close tolerances For enhancing the mill capacity, wide range of special steel grades is identified to produce in the dimensions of 6–100 mm (thickness), 1500–4100 mm (width) and 6300–15,000 mm (length) with superior surface finish The necessary high-quality thick and wide defect free slabs (both internal & external) are cast at newly installed Slab Caster-3 The productivity and quality of the liquid steel has been ensured by the successful implementation and production from new Blast Furnace-5, BOF-3 and RHOB This paper elaborates the efforts made for improvement and optimization of steelmaking and rolling practices for the production of special quality high-strength plates such as IS 2062, E350/E410/E450 and API X70, etc The major modifications were carried out in each stage of its production, ie, BOF steelmaking and secondary refining to optimize the quality of steel with respect to lower residue of sulfur and phosphorus and rolling of slabs in the plate mill Reduction in UST failure of the plates has been observed for the liquid steel processed through newly commissioned RHOB at the shop The rolling parameters were optimized to achieve the desired mechanical properties, however ultrasonic soundness of the plates were found to be more dependent on clean steel than the higher reduction schedule given during initial passes at plate mill

TL;DR: In this article, the surface subsidence spatial-temporal characteristics in Langfang were investigated using ASAR images acquired from August 2007 to September 2010 with the persistent scatterer Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (PSInSAR) technique.
Abstract: . In this paper, the subsidence change maps in Langfang were obtained using ASAR images covering Langfang area acquired from August 2007 to September 2010 with the Persistent Scatterer Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (PSInSAR) technique. Surface subsidence spatial-temporal characteristics in Langfang was investigated. The analysis of experimental results show that 1) prominent uneven subsidence patterns were identified in Langfang. Specifically, surface subsidence rates ranged from −77 mm/year to 4 mm/year, and maximum subsidence rate was detected in Nanjianta Town; 2) the standard deviation of the target point subsidence rates in the study area ranges from 0.8 mm/year to 9.3 mm/year, 70.4% of the monitoring point standard deviations in study area are less than 3 mm/year; 3) surface subsidence time series presented nonlinear variation trend. The surface subsidence has a tendency to gradually expand around the center of Nanjianta Town, and the scope and trend of expansion to the north and west of Langfang are more serious.
