The design and evaluation of a theory-based intervention to promote security behaviour against phishing

Abstract: This study examined the impact of fear appeal messages on user cognitions, attitudes, behavioural attentions and precautionary behaviour regarding online information-sharing to protect against the threat of phishing attacks. A pre-test post-test design was used in which 768 Internet users filled out an online questionnaire. Participants were grouped in one of three fear appeal conditions: strong-fear appeal, weak-fear appeal and control condition. Claims regarding vulnerability of phishing attacks and claims concerning response efficacy of protective online information-sharing behaviour were manipulated in the fear appeal messages. The study demonstrates positive effects of fear appeals on heightening end-users’ cognitions, attitudes and behavioural intentions. However, future studies are needed to determine how subsequent security behaviour can be promoted, as the effects on this crucial aspect were not directly observed. Nonetheless, we conclude that fear appeals have great potential to promote security behaviour by making end users aware of threats and simultaneously providing behavioural advice on how to mitigate these threats.

Abstract: The sub-Tenon's anesthesia block was reintroduced into clinical practice in the early 1990s as a simple, effective, and safe alternative to needle blocks. The technique has remained simple and effective but has evolved. Although still very unusual, both sight- and life-threatening complications have occurred. To safely perform the block, detailed knowledge of anatomy and methods for administering anesthesia are essential.

Improvement of quality performance in manufacturing organizations by minimization of production defects

Abstract: The work in this paper will present a developed methodology for quality improvement in manufacturing organizations. This methodology comprises a model for the identification of various sources of quality defects on the product; this model would include an analysis tool in order to calculate defect probability, a statistical measurement of quality, and a lean manufacturing tool to prevent the presence of defects on the product. The attribution of defects to their source will lead to a fast and significant definition of the root cause of defects. The techniques described in this paper were developed for an improvement project in a plastic parts painting manufacturing facility of a first-tier supplier to the automotive industry. Data were collected from the manufacturing plant, which indicated that the daily defect rates were significant, ranging between 10% and 15%. These figures gave a clear indication that the number of defects could be significantly reduced to a few parts within the total production. This could be achieved if appropriate manufacturing practices were adopted with the aim of reducing the effect of manufacturing system variables that affect overall quality. A process attribute chart (H-PAC) has been introduced to monitor the defects every hour. Upper and lower control limits were given and an SPC graph is plotted every hour for the three major defects. If the defects go above the upper control limits, the team meets to solve the issues. Over ten weeks’ study after implementing changes, there was a 9% reduction in defects.

Discrimination of teas based on total luminescence spectroscopy and pattern recognition

Abstract: This paper reports on the application of total luminescence spectroscopy to discriminate between seven different types of tea: four bottled liquid Japanese teas (oolong, green, houji and black teas) and three leaf teas (Kenya, Assam and Ceylon teas). Total luminescence spectra were recorded by measuring the emission spectra in the range 300–700 nm at excitation wavelengths from 250 to 590 nm. Discrimination of teas based on their spectral data was performed by principal component analysis, a common chemometric method used for data reduction and visualisation. The results demonstrate the ability of fluorescence techniques to differentiate between green tea (unfermented), black tea (fermented) and oolong tea (partially fermented). Nursing Interventions for Improving Nutritional Status and Outcomes of Stroke Patients: Descriptive Reviews of Processes and Outcomes.

Abstract: Background Stroke produces many effects that impact eating. Nutrition is fundamental for recovery and rehabilitation, but the nursing nutritional role and associated outcomes have not been delineated. Aims (1) To identify nursing interventions intended to improve nutritional status and related outcomes of stroke survivors, and (2) To examine the outcomes of identified nursing interventions on nutrition-related outcomes, including dietary intake, functional status, complications, activities of daily living, mortality, and quality of life for stroke survivors. Methods A modified version of Cochrane literature searching and review methods was used to identify studies that described and evaluated nursing nutritional interventions for adult stroke patients in hospital and community settings. A minimum of 10 years content of seven databases and nine journals was searched to March 2011. Findings were presented descriptively. Results In total 27 papers from 26 studies were included: 5 randomized controlled trials, 5 clinical trials, 6 quasi-experiments, 4 case studies, and 6 qualitative/observational studies. Stroke nursing nutritional care encompassed screening of nutritional status and swallowing function; assessment of nutritional characteristics and preferences; referral; mealtime organization, supervision and monitoring; mealtime assistance and feeding skills. Nurses individualized care, coordinated or managed meal delivery and enteral feeding systems, were responsible for the dining environment and conduct of mealtimes; they taught staff, patients, and carers. There was little indication of integrated or psychosocial nursing nutritional care, or concepts, theories or models of nursing nutritional care. Many interventions were described but not evaluated. Little high quality evidence was of available. Conclusions This review indicated the parameters of nursing nutritional care, and provided a framework for future research. A functional, supportive, and educational nursing nutritional role was described but little evidence was of sufficient quality to support policy and practice development or inform education. Nutritional care was revealed as an essential but under-recognized element of stroke nursing.
