Abstract: The Conductivity of Bark-Extracts from Spruce, a Sensitive Indicator for Air Poilution. Bark of spruce is a useful and sensitive indicator for air pollution. The latter may be determined more precisely by electrolytic conductivity of bark extracts than by pH-value or sulphate level of foliage. By an additional simple sulphate analysis of bark extracts the effects of SO2 may be distinguished from those of certain components in dust.

Abstract: 1. Lipoprotein B from female Lp(a)-lipoprotein-negative serum was isolated from the fraction of density 1.073-1.125 by using immunoadsorbent; 2.5mg of freeze-dried material was obtained from 100ml of serum from a fasting patient. 2. The hydrated density of this lipoprotein was found to be 1.084g/cm(3). A flotation rate F(1.200) of 9.4 and lipid/protein ratio 1.40 were found, similar to that of high-density (d 1.073-1.125) lipoprotein preparations. 3. From immunochemical and electrophoretic studies of the intact and totally delipidized lipoprotein B it was concluded that this lipoprotein represents a separate family within the high-density range of human serum lipoproteins. 4. The possibility that the isolated lipoprotein B is an artifact created by the isolation procedure is discussed.

Abstract: A SOUNDING rocket was launched recently from the Andoya range (69° 17′ N), chiefly to study the ion composition around the cold summer mesopause, and its relation to ambient temperature, ionization production and ionization loss rates. The most striking result was the large size of the water cluster ions detected and the extremely rapid change in the ion composition around 85 km. The rocket, a Nike Cajun launched on August 8, 1971, at 1211 GMT, reached an altitude of 98.6 km and carried the following experiments.

Abstract: I t has been observed repeatedly tha t during metaphase certain chromosomes tend to occupy positions which are in relat ion to one another. The aeroeentrie chromosomes approach each other with their satellites more often t han i t would be expected. This relative posit ion to one another has been called satellite association and probably is the result of the nueleolar-forming funct ion of these chromosomes [5, 4]. I t is possible tha t a certain stickiness of the nueleolar substance and the actual t ime of the dissolution of the nncleolus during prophase, influence the posit ion of the acrocentric chromosomes in the metaphase plate [2]. Many writers [1, 4, 5, 8] presume tha t there is a relat ionship between the increased frequency of satellite association and the oeenrence of chromosomal n0n-dis junct ion, since satellite association has also been observed during pachytene [3]. I n order to prove this hypothesis, we have determined the frequency of satellite association in metaphases from lymphocyte cultures 'of heal thy adul t males and females, of children with normal chromosomes, of pat ients with chromosome aberrat ions, and of parents of mongoloid children. The association values of hea l thy adults and of mongoloid children has already been given previously [7].

Durch Vergleich mit dem gelb gefarbten 2-Isopropyliden-indandion-1,3-monophenylhydrazon (3c) wird der spezifische Einfluss der Dicyanmethylengruppe auf den Farbcharakter nachgewiesen. 2 a und b sind thermisch und losungsmittelabhangig instabil und cyclisieren zu substituierten Indenopyridazinen 4a–b, deren chemische Reaktivitat beschrieben wird.

Abstract: Um den Einflus der interpartikularen Interferenzen zu untersuchen, wird die Streufunktion in zwei Anteile zerlegt, die die reine Partikelstreuung bzw. die interpartikulare Streuung darstellen. Es wird gezeigt, das letztere sehr empfindlich von der Teilchenform abhangt. Die interpartikulare Streuung kann nur bei Teilchen mit ebener Begrenzung verschwinden. Im allgemeinen mus das Verhalten zwischen zwei Grenzfallen, dem Gas-Typ und dem Liquid-Typ, liegen. Wahrend der sterische Ausschliesungseffekt stets zu letzterem fuhrt, konnen beide Typen zwanglos durch Wahrscheinlichkeitsnachwirkung erreicht werden. Diese Verhaltnisse werden an einem einfachen Modell demonstriert.

Abstract: Im Hinblick auf die enge Verflechtung des Sjogrens-Syndroms mit den Kollagenkrankheiten wurden bei zwei Pationten mit Sjogrens-Syndrom elektronenmikroskopisehe Untersuchungen von Speicheldrusen, Haut und Niere durchgefuhrt. Bei einem der beiden Patienten konnten erstmalig solche Einschluskorper in der Gl. parotis bei myoepithelialer Sialaldenitis in Capillarendothelien (Abb. 1) und in Lymphocyten nachgewiesen werden. Ferner gelang ihr Nachweis bei demselben Patienten in der Niere, and zwar nicht nur in den glomerularen (Abb.3), sondern auch in den peritubularen (Abb.4) Capillaren. Diese Inklusionen sind in den Zisternen des endoplasmatischen Reticulums lokalisiert und setzen sich aus tubularen Einheiten mit einem Durchmesser von 200–250 A zusammen. Die Tubuli scheinen zu anastomosieren, wodurch sie in ihrer Gesamtheit als dreidimensionales Netzwerk imponieren (Abb. 2), Bezuglich der Natur dieser Einschlusse werden zwei Moglichkeiten, namlich die virale and die nichtvirale diskutiert. Fur die Virusnatur sprechen rein morphologisch die Ahnlichkeit mit den RNS-haltigen Paramyxoviren, sowie die Verdauung durch RNSase, dagegen die bisher negativen Resultate von Serumantikorpern, Immunfluorescenz und Gewebekultur. Der zunehmende Nachweis dieser Einschluskorper auser bei Kollagenkrankheiten auch bei verschiedenen anderen Erkrankungen scheint unserer Ansieht each eher fur eine eigentumliche Reaktion des endoplasmatischen Reticulums auf einen vorlaufig unbekannten Reiz als fur eine Virusinfektion der Zellen zu sprechen.
