TL;DR: An algorithm for non-overlapping camera network localization using trajectory estimation and finds the final configuration of the network by adjusting the remaining cameras with respect to this reference is presented.
Abstract: We present an algorithm for non-overlapping camera network localization using trajectory estimation. The localization refers to the extrinsic calibration of a network i.e., the recovery of relative position and orientation of each camera in the network on a common ground plane coordinate system. To this end, Kalman filtering is initially used to model the observed trajectories in each camera's field of view. This information is then used to estimate the missing trajectory information in the unobserved regions by integrating the results of forward and backward linear regression estimation from adjacent cameras. These estimated trajectories are then filtered and used to recover the relative position and orientation of the cameras by analyzing the estimated and observed exit and entry points of an object in each camera's field of view. We fix one camera as a reference and find the final configuration of the network by adjusting the remaining cameras with respect to this reference. We evaluate performance of the algorithm on both simulated and real data and compare the results with state-of-the-art approaches.

TL;DR: Extended particle swarm optimization (EPSO) technique for the optimal selection of OT parameters based on two cost functions is proposed and the performance of filters improved significantly using the proposed optimization method.
Abstract: In the past few decades, the field of image processing has seen a rapid advancement in the correlation filters, which serves as a very promising tool for object detection and recognition. Mostly, complex filter equations are used for deriving the correlation filters, leading to a filter solution in a closed loop. Selection of optimal tradeoff (OT) parameters is crucial for the effectiveness of correlation filters. This paper proposes extended particle swarm optimization (EPSO) technique for the optimal selection of OT parameters. The optimal solution is proposed based on two cost functions. The best result for each target is obtained by applying the optimization technique separately. The obtained results are compared with the conventional particle swarm optimization method for various test images belonging from different state-of-the-art datasets. The obtained results depict the performance of filters improved significantly using the proposed optimization method.

TL;DR: In this paper, a study was conducted to see whether herpetofaunal assemblage differed between hiking trails, undisturbed forest and urban areas within the Margalla Hills National Park, Islamabad Capital Territory, Pakistan.
Abstract: This study was conducted to see whether herpetofaunal assemblage differed amongst hiking trails, undisturbed forest and urban areas within the Margalla Hills National Park, Islamabad Capital Territory, Pakistan. Circular plot area-constrained searches (45 plots in each habitat, each plot with an area of 25 m2) were used from March 2018 to July 2019. We recorded seven amphibian species, nine lizard species and six snake species. The species richness of amphibians and lizards was the same in the studied strata, while the detection and encounter rate of snakes was lower in the undisturbed forest and urban areas. The encounter rate of amphibians differed significantly between urban areas and hiking trails/undisturbed forest. The encounter rate and population density of lizards differed significantly between undisturbed forest and urban areas. The most frequently encountered amphibian species along the hiking trail and urban areas was Duttaphrynus stomaticus, with Hoplobatrachus tigerinus in undisturbed forest. The most common and frequently encountered lizard species along the hiking trail and urban areas was Hemidactylus brookii, while the Ophisops jerdonii was the most frequently seen in undisturbed forest. The most common and frequently encountered snake species along the hiking trail and undisturbed forest was the Indotyphlops braminus, while Ptyas mucosa was the most common in urban areas. The subsequent bio-assessment, based on herpetofauna, of the Park revealed good to excellent biotic integrity The Park faces threats including livestock grazing, alien invasive vegetation and human disturbance due to settlements, restaurants and tourism-related activities. While several of these threats have been mitigated since the establishment of the Islamabad Wildlife Management Board, the Park still requires improved management, especially regarding regulating tourism.

TL;DR: A metaheuristic optimization technique is proposed for the effective scheduling of smart appliance that outperformed existing schemes in cost reduction and the average waiting time minimization, and outruns other scheduling schemes in peak to average ratio reduction.
Abstract: With the advent of the smart grid, it has become possible to improve the energy systems. To optimize the energy consumption pattern of the appliances, home energy management system is proposed for smart homes. Energy management in smart homes is a challenging task, therefore, the concept of demand-side management was introduced. For the effective scheduling of smart appliance, we propose a metaheuristic optimization technique. The proposed technique is hybrid of two existing techniques: Tabu Search (TS) and Bacterial Foraging Algorithm (BFA). The aim of the proposed technique is to reduce energy consumption so that user electricity bill reduces. Also, improves user comfort in term of average waiting time. For electricity bill calculation and appliance scheduling, time of use price tariff is used. Simulation results demonstrate that proposed scheme outperformed existing schemes in cost reduction and the average waiting time minimization. However, TS outruns other scheduling schemes in peak to average ratio reduction.

TL;DR: In this paper, a comparison of different joining techniques of composites with metals keeping in view the tensile and fatigue properties of double lap joint configuration was carried out, where simple adhesive joints, hybrid joints, and joints having adhesive pins in metal plate were prepared and tested.
Abstract: The use of composite materials has increased rapidly in the last couple of decades especially in the aerospace industry due to its lighter weight, higher stiffness and better fatigue properties The fiber metal laminates (FML) assemblies design normally involves an interaction between composites (carbon fiber) and metallic parts (AA 6061 T6) and these interfaces often prove to be the weakest portions of the structures This research has therefore focused on carrying out a comparison of different joining techniques of composites with metals keeping in view the tensile and fatigue properties of double lap joint configuration For this purpose simple adhesive joints, hybrid joints (adhesive +rivets) and joints having adhesive pins in metal plate were prepared and tested The research also involves finite element modeling of these joints and their subsequent experimental validation The results showed higher strength of hybrid joint, in which a combination of fasteners and adhesive was used; however, the novel idea of using adhesive pins could not be successful
