Abstract: Boundary value problems where resonance phenomena are studied are most often transformable to parameter dependent Sturm-Liouville (SL) eigenproblems with interior singularities. The parameter dependent Sturm-Liouville eigenproblem with interior poles is examined. Asymptotic approximations to the solutions are obtained using an extended Langer’s method to take care of the resulting complex eigenvalues and eigenfunctions.

TL;DR: No significant sex differences were found on the subscales of Generalized Support, Positive Expectations, and Participation among African adolescent boys and girls from four rural and urban high schools in South Africa.
Abstract: This study investigated rural-urban differences in teachers' perceived behaviors among African adolescent boys and girls. On the Perceived Teacher Behavior Inventory administered to 354 boys and 530 girls from four rural and urban high schools in South Africa no significant sex differences were found on the subscales of Generalized Support, Positive Expectations, and Participation. Rural boys and girls scored significantly higher, however, than their urban peers on the Generalized Support and Participation.

TL;DR: In this article, a group of therapists attempting to understand, from a narrative perspective, the organisational context within which they work are described. But the main body of the paper consists of a letter that was sent to participants after the workshop, and the reader is invited to join collaboratively in our reflections so as to continue an open-ended, creative process.
Abstract: While South African society finds itself in the throes of political changes, therapists working within organisations in transition find themselves challenged by the turbulence of transformation. The authors are a group of therapists attempting to understand, from a narrative perspective, the organisational context within which they work. This paper recounts the processes around the design, implementation, and outcomes of a workshop on this theme. The main body of the paper consists of a letter that was sent to participants after the workshop. The reader is invited to join collaboratively in our reflections so as to continue an open-ended, creative process.

TL;DR: In this paper, the relationship between economic growth and environmental quality is discussed, with a focus on the industrial sector as a source of growth, with the possible trickling down of benefits to other strata in society.
Abstract: One of the most heavily debated areas of environmental policy is the relationship between economic growth and environmental quality. South Africa is no exception in this regard. With its typical Third World problems of poverty, high unemployment, and a low skills base, the emphasis must be placed on the need for economic development Moreover, being a capital-scarce country, South Africa needs to generate a higher return on Investments by focusing on the industrial sector as a source of growth, with the possible trickling down of benefits to other strata in society. Such an outlook will have a greater influence on the both the quality and quantity of natural resources in the country,
