TL;DR: The research field of entrepreneurship has shown a significant increase in scientific production in the last two decades (Landstrom & Harirchi, 2018a), attracting researchers from many disciplines (Zahra, 2007).
Abstract: The research field of entrepreneurship has shown a significant increase in scientific production in the last two decades (Landstrom & Harirchi, 2018a), attracting researchers from many disciplines (Zahra, 2007). There has been a considerable increase in the quality of the research and legitimacy of the field (Audretsch, 2012; Davidsson, 2016). However, this research field still faces considerable challenges in its continuous advancement. The field has several different definitions for basic concepts and approaches (Landstrom & Lohrke, 2010), and still lacks consensus on, for example, what is its object of study (Burg & Romme, 2014; Machado & Borges, 2017). Thus, there are different understandings about what entrepreneurship means – generation of a result (e.g., creation of a new organization), discovery and exploitation of opportunities, and entrepreneurial process or action (Machado & Borges, 2017; Shane & Eckhardt, 2003; Shane & Venkataraman, 2000), among others.

TL;DR: The results show the importance of good infrastructure exceeds the difficulties companies face in implementing it, and while companies planning to use Big Data expect strong results, current users are more skeptical about its performance.
Abstract: With the total quantity of data doubling every two years, the low price of computing and data storage, make Big Data analytics (BDA) adoption desirable for companies, as a tool to get competitive advantage. Given the availability of free software, why have some companies failed to adopt these techniques? To answer this question, we extend the unified theory of technology adoption and use of technology model (UTAUT) adapted for the BDA context, adding two variables: resistance to use and perceived risk. We used the level of implementation of these techniques to divide companies into users and non-users of BDA. The structural models were evaluated by partial least squares (PLS). The results show the importance of good infrastructure exceeds the difficulties companies face in implementing it. While companies planning to use Big Data expect strong results, current users are more skeptical about its performance.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors focus on the economic mechanisms that shape evo-lutionary trends in entrepreneurial activity and how they operate in distinct places, and propose that EE have regularities, but they can also assume different configurations, i.e., varying combinations of influential dimen-sions.
Abstract: The dominant discourse on Entrepreneurial Ecosystems (EE) remains focused on the profile of a handful of successful locations. This has hindered a deeper comprehension of the economic mechanisms that shape evolutionary trends in entrepreneurial activity and how they operate in distinct places. We propose that EE have regularities, but they can also assume different configurations, i.e., varying combinations of influential dimensions. Through fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis, we address this issue with data from the State of Sao Paulo, Brazil. This research focuses on five EE dimensions: Science & Technology, Human Capital, Market Dynamics, Business Dynamics, and Infrastructure. Findings point at the heterogeneous nature of EE distributed in three different paths. While configurations’ vary in terms of causal conditions, research universities, knowledge-intensive jobs and wider credit operations are core-causal conditions. Proximity to the main economic hub appears as a key differentiator among ecosystems.

TL;DR: Uhl-Bien, Marion, and McKelvey as discussed by the authors argue that the traditional carrot and stick approach no longer works as well as it used to with the new generation of workers, who are more interconnected and have easy access to information.
Abstract: The present work context has undergone transformations that have substantially changed labor relations and contributed to the emergence of less hierarchical and more collaborative organizational arrangements. This new environment requires a different approach to leadership (Uhl-Bien, Marion, & McKelvey, 2007). The “carrot and stick” approach no longer works as it used to, particularly with the new generation of workers, who are more interconnected and have easy access to information.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors evaluated the impacts of shift work on the family and social life of workers according to their partners' perspective and found that shift workers report greater impacts on family reorganization and joint social life.
Abstract: Research has thus far privileged the impact of shift work on workers’ health from the workers’ perspective. Inversely, this study evaluates the impacts of such a work schedule on the family and social life of workers according to their partners’ perspective. It also compared the impacts of two different work schedules (shift work vs. normal work) on family and social life. Five hundred and fifteen partners of Portuguese police officers participated in the study, and it was found that shift work has a moderate to high impact on all evaluated areas of family and social life. Partners of shift workers report greater impacts on family reorganization and joint social life. Regarding the two work schedules, statistically significant differences were found in all evaluated areas, and the partners of shift workers reported greater impacts of their partner's work schedule than did the partners of day workers.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors provide a guide for validating scales using a structural and confirmatory approach on the basis of data derived from 262 companies in the province of Seville (Spain).
Abstract: Workers’ happiness is a determining factor of their short- and long-term efficiency. Several scholars have attempted to develop happiness measurement frameworks. The present work analyzes the validity of a scale proposed by Del Junco, Espasandin, Dutschke, and Palacios (2013) in which factors determining worker happiness are elucidated and examined. The work provides a guide for validating scales using a structural and confirmatory approach on the basis of data derived from 262 companies in the province of Seville (Spain). The scale examines two dimensions—factors related to the job and factors related to the worker—that confirm the need to combine both individual and environmental perspectives when analyzing worker happiness.

TL;DR: O núcleo central da representação social associada ao Cloud Computing é composto pelas palavras: nuvem, armazenamento, disponibilidade, internet, virtualização e segurança.
Abstract: This study seeks to identify the social representation about Cloud Computing, by the perception of the Brazilian professionals of Information Technology (IT). Data were collected by administering online questionnaires to 221 IT professionals who were chosen using accessibility criteria. Social Representation Theory (SRT) was foundational in this study. We employed free evocation of words technique and the Verges’ framework, as well as implicative, lexical, and content analysis. Analyzing the social representation of Cloud Computing yielded the following associated words: cloud, storage, availability, Internet, virtualization, and security. These results show that Brazilian IT professionals have a primarily operational, rather than strategic, approach to Cloud Computing this paradigm based on issues related to the safety and availability of cloud data. These results are aligned with other scientific literature on this subject. The theoretical contribution of this research lies in the use of SRT; this integrated use of implicative, lexical, and content analyses may be used to better examine constructs in the future.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors analyze academic productivism in graduate schools of management in Brazil from a multilevel perspective, focusing on the relationship between teaching and research as a manifestation of productivism.
Abstract: The objective of this article is to analyze academic productivism in graduate schools of management in Brazil from a multilevel perspective. First, we discuss the emergence of productivism, in addition to reflecting on the paradox between teaching and research as a manifestation of productivism. Next, we analyze this phenomenon at three levels—governmental, institutional, and individual—which may help management researchers examine their impact on productivity, working conditions, and professor well-being. Based on the presented reflections, we recommend defining academic productivism as a performative act that institutionalizes a set of actions and behaviors, characterizes social representation as an area of knowledge, delimits a system of beliefs and valuesoriented to a performative culture incorporated socially into action, and affects working conditions, health, well- -being and careers of professors who are part of the community.

Abstract: Big data applications have been remodeling several business models and provoking strong radical transformations in supply chain management (SCM). Supported by the literature on big data, supply chain management, and the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT), this study aims to evaluate the variables that influence the intention of Brazilian SCM professionals to adopt big data. To this end, we adapted and validated a previously developed UTAUT model. A survey of 152 supply chain respondents revealed that facilitating conditions (e.g., IT infrastructure) have a high influence on their intention to adopt big data. However, social influence and performance expectancy showed no significant effect. This study contributes to the practical field, offering valuable insights for decision-makers considering big data projects. It also contributes to the literature by helping minimize the research gap in big data in the Brazilian context.

TL;DR: A literature review on Brazilian business-to-business (B2B) marketing from 2008 to 2018 is presented in this article. But the focus of this review is on customer journey and value relationship.
Abstract: This study presents a literature review on Brazilian business-to-business (B2B) marketing from 2008 to 2018. The methods used included review topic selection, literature search, data collection and reading, and analysis of scientific periodical publications of a level greater than or equal to B2. Theoretically, B2B marketing has been associated with six themes: innovation, customer journey and value relationship, data analysis, technology utilization, integration between marketing and finance, and marketing ecosystems. In terms of methodology, quantitative research, survey utilization, transverse temporal cuts, non-probability sampling, and use of questionnaire scales for data gathering have prevailed in this field. It was found that empirical research has mainly focused on customer journey and value relationship. This study contributes to existing literature by providing several future research possibilities; in addition, it draws a parallel between Brazilian and international scientific production on the topic to suggest an overview of future B2B marketing research.

TL;DR: This article explored the historical trajectory of internet memes and identified their constitutional features (vernacularism, virality, and intertextuality) and proposed that memes are objects that act as provocateurs; this is because they are carriers of meaning that reflect the repertoires of closed communities.
Abstract: This work describes the trajectory of Internet memes, their main characteristics, and their relationship with the fields of virality literature and cultural production research. We explore the historical trajectory of internet memes and identify their constitutional features (vernacularism, virality, and intertextuality). We also propose that memes are objects that act as provocateurs; this is because they are carriers of meaning that reflect the repertoires of closed communities. However, they acquire new reflected repertoires in the process of being transmitted intertextually among consumers. As such, this work both clarifies the intertemporal and logical interdependencies between online cultural production and virality, as well as unveil the linking power of vernacular backgrounds and shared expressive practices (in our context, elaboration of common memes) for online consumer collectivities.

TL;DR: This study analyzes IMC as an imperfection agent in the market for strategic Big Data resources and indicates the positive influence of IMC on value expectation and a negative effect on cost expectation.
Abstract: Firms are increasingly interested in developing Big Data strategies. However, the expectation of the value of these benefits and of the costs involved in acquiring or developing these solutions are not homogeneous for all firms, which generates competitive imperfections in the market for strategic resources. Information Management Capability (IMC) aims to provide the required unique insights for successful Big Data strategies. This study analyzes IMC as an imperfection agent in the market for strategic Big Data resources. The hypotheses were tested using a survey of 101 respondents and analyzed with SEM-PLS. The results indicate the positive influence of IMC on value expectation and a negative effect on cost expectation. Cost expectation inversely affects the intent to purchase or develop the resources to implement Big Data strategies. Value expectation has a positive effect on both intents.

TL;DR: The results indicate that physical variables, such as area and population density, are important to explain this relation, however, the mileage of district bus lines and the non-white resident rate were also significant.
Abstract: This study aims to relate information about the waiting times of ride-sourcing services, with specific reference to Uber, using socioeconomic variables from Sao Paulo, Brazil. The intention is to explore the possibility of using this measure as an accessibility proxy. A database was created with the mean waiting time data per district, which was aggregated to a set of socioeconomic and transport infrastructure variables. From this database, a multiple linear regression model was built. In addition, the stepwise method selected the most significant variables. Moran’s I test confirmed the spatial distribution pattern of the measures, motivating the use of a spatial autoregressive model. The results indicate that physical variables, such as area and population density, are important to explain this relation. However, the mileage of district bus lines and the non-white resident rate were also significant. Besides, the spatial component indicates a possible relation to accessibility.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors argue that corporate crime is part of companies' operations to support contemporary capitalism, and they discuss the seriousness of corporate crimes and how they resemble genocide, and conclude that organizations become criminal and present a way to prevent corporate crime.
Abstract: Exploitation of workers, communities and resources has always occurred, although it is not a central topic in the history of management, whose main narrative is urgency in the pursuit of efficiency and the right solutions. However, crimes, misconduct, unethical behavior and corporate social irresponsibility have become increasingly common, thus calling for reflections on the relevance of addressing these issues in the academic field and in management practice. In this essay, we start from the premise that corporate crime must be understood according to its multidisciplinary nature, and we focus our efforts on discussing management issues to argue that corporate crime is part of companies’ operations to support contemporary capitalism. We begin by addressing the power of corporations as the main force of contemporary capitalism in its form of extreme concentration of corporate wealth and ownership. Then we discuss the seriousness of corporate crimes and how they resemble genocide. We close with our considerations on why organizations become criminal and present a way to prevent corporate crime.

Abstract: A Odontologia Hospitalar envolve acoes que promovem cuidados as alteracoes bucais de alta complexidade, as quais necessitam de atividades multidisciplinares.

TL;DR: In the last quarter of the nineteenth century, labor conflict has moved into the institutional arena, where union actions and specific legislation to address this issue have created external milestones for organizations when hiring employees.
Abstract: Conceptually, human resource management (HRM), as it is known today, originated in attempts by scholars from American universities to understand the so-called "labor problem"in the last quarter of the nineteenth century. At that time, this issue arose because of the emergence of wage earning following industrialization. Since then, labor conflict has moved into the institutional arena, where union actions and specific legislation to address this issue have created external milestones for organizations when hiring employees.

TL;DR: Baer et al. as mentioned in this paper argued that the correlation between creativity and innovation needs clarification because it is characterized by tensions (Lewis, Welsh, Dehler, & Green, 2002), paradoxes (Miron, Erez, & Naveh, 2004), contradictions (King, Anderson, & West, 1991), and dilemmas (Benner & Tushman, 2003).
Abstract: Creativity—the production of ideas that are simultaneously novel and useful (Amabile, 1983, 1996)— is intimately linked to innovation, which entails the conversion of ideas into new products, services, or ways of doing things (e.g., Kanter, 1988; West, 2002). Most studies on innovation differentiate at least two activities in the innovation process: idea generation and idea implementation (e.g., Amabile, 1988; Bledow, Frese, Anderson, Erez, & Farr, 2009; Sarooghi, Libaers, & Burkemper, 2015). Previous research has consistently documented that the production of ideas is a positive predictor of idea implementation (Axtell, et al., 2000, 2006). However, the correlation between creativity and innovation needs clarification (Baer, 2012) because it is characterized by tensions (Lewis, Welsh, Dehler, & Green, 2002), paradoxes (Miron, Erez, & Naveh, 2004), contradictions (King, Anderson, & West, 1991), and dilemmas (Benner & Tushman, 2003). To interpret tensions and outcomes when studying innovation processes, March’s (1991) framework of exploration and exploitation has become an essential lens. Idea generation is exploratory in nature, but idea implementation is exploitative. Exploration engages firms in divergent thinking through search, discovery, experimentation, risk taking, flexibility, and variation. Exploitation emphasizes convergent thinking including selection, refinement, execution, and variance reduction.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyzed the relation between redemption constraints and liquidity of portfolios under management of Brazilian equity funds, as well as its effect on performance and found that redemption constraints positively impact equity funds performance.
Abstract: This paper analyzed the relation between redemption constraints and liquidity of portfolios under management of Brazilian equity funds, as well as its effect on performance . The sample included 2,706 Brazilian equity funds with investments in stocks listed on BM&FBovespa or in shares of other equity funds in the period between 2009 and 2016. The data were analyzed through descriptive statistics and linear regressions with panel data. The results indicated that redemption constraints positively impact equity funds performance . In addition, the results also suggested that liquidity constraints allow the funds to exploit less liquid investments in stocks and shares of other funds. When verifying if investments in low liquidity assets by equity funds imply superior performance from liquidity premia, the results did not indicate a positive effect.

TL;DR: The results demonstrated a significant effect of WPS on PSRB and moral conviction, however, the mediating effect of moral conviction between WPS and PSRB was insignificant.
Abstract: This study investigated the effect of healthcare professionals’ workplace spirituality (WPS) on moral conviction and prosocial rule-breaking (PSRB). The data were collected from 315 healthcare professionals from three main districts of South Punjab, Pakistan. We determined the measures’ validity using confirmatory factor analysis. We investigated the hypothesized relationships using structural regression modeling. The results demonstrated a significant effect of WPS on PSRB and moral conviction. However, the mediating effect of moral conviction between WPS and PSRB was insignificant. Healthcare professionals may regulate PSRB by screening and promoting individuals with high WPS to positions requiring a high level of PSRB rather than considering health service providers’ personal moral beliefs.

TL;DR: In this paper, the role of high performance work practices (HPWPs) in controlling organizational politics was examined and the moderating influence of Machiavellian personalities on HPWPs-politics was evaluated.
Abstract: A vast majority of research characterizes organizational politics as an aversive phenomenon and thus recommends exploring the factors that minimize its intensity. This study primarily endeavored to examine the role of high performance work practices (HPWPs) in controlling organizational politics. The moderating influence of Machiavellian personalities on HPWPs- politics was also evaluated. Through a questionnaire survey, 243 responses were obtained from engineers working in a local industrial area of capital city of Pakistan. The results showed an inverse relationship between HPWPs and perceived organizational politics (POP), and the moderating role of Machiavellianism was substantiated. Practical implications are presented based on the study results.

TL;DR: In the last decade, a substantial increase in scientific and technological production in innovation research has been marked, especially in the last ten years, by a very large increase in the number of researchers working in this area as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: The Strategic Organizational Management area of study has been marked, especially in the last ten years, by a substantial increase in scientific and technological production in innovation research. Such growth can be grouped into at least five thematic axes: a) innovation as a driver of competitiveness of organizations, networks, sectoral activities, and global value chains (Crossan & Apaydin, 2010; Marchi, Giuliani, & Rabellotti, 2018); b) innovation as a driving force of economic, technological, social, and sustainable development of regions and nations (Cirera & Maloney, 2017); c) innovation as a strategic management process for the transformation of resources and capabilities into new products, services, and business models (Adams, Bessant, & Phelps, 2006); d) architecture of institutional ecosystems and actors (university/company/government/society) oriented to acquire value and accelerate innovation (Carayannis, Grigoroudis, Campbell, Meissner, & Stamati, 2018; Etzkowitz & Zhou, 2017); and e) new methodologies, metrics, and advanced technological tools for innovation research (Keupp, Palmie, & Gassmann, 2012).

TL;DR: The ability of organizations to produce, collect, manage, analyze, and transform data has increased rapidly over the past decade, but this Red Queen scenario comes at a cost as collecting, curating, and managing large datasets requires expertise and dedicated staff, often consuming resources that do not contribute to core business activities.
Abstract: The ability of organizations to produce, collect, manage, analyze, and transform data has increased rapidly over the past decade (Delen & Zolbanin, 2018). This has resulted in significant new challenges regarding how data can be leveraged for improving business decisions and how this new scenario changes business processes and operations (Vidgen, Shaw, & Grant, 2017). The widespread adoption of advanced analytical methods (e.g., machine learning) has attracted significant interest (Gupta, Deokar, Iyer, Sharda, & Schrader, 2018; Vassakis, Petrakis, & Kopanakis, 2018) particularly because the required data storage and methods can be accessed remotely through web-based interfaces such as cloud services. This has resulted in an increased belief that businesses must actively engage with this technology to remain competitive. However, this Red Queen scenario comes at a cost as collecting, curating, and managing large datasets requires expertise and dedicated staff, often consuming resources that do not contribute to core business activities. Consider the fact that there is an increasing role for data scientists and data engineers, among others, within organizations (Davenport & Patil, 2012). Roles such as Chief Data Officer (CDO) and Chief Analytics Officer (CAO) are now commonplace within most organizations.

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of consistent leadership behaviors in promoting (or suppressing) relevant work outcomes for temporary employees such as interns were examined, and it was found that humor needs to be tailored to leadership styles to predict interns' attitudinal and behavioral responses, with different types of humor interacting differently across leadership styles.
Abstract: This study examines the effects of (in)consistent leadership behaviors in promoting (or suppressing) relevant work outcomes for temporary employees such as interns. Specifically, to better understand the drivers of internship effectiveness, we hypothesized that supervisor humor interacts with leadership style, sending implicit messages about the organizational and supervisory relationship, thus shaping interns’ attitudes andbehaviors. Using a sample of 164 interns, we empirically examined the moderating effect of humor (affiliative and aggressive) on the relationship between leadership styles (transformational and laissez-faire), attitudes (satisfaction and stress), and behaviors (negligence and job acceptance intentions) using a two-wave researchdesign. Our findings were consistent with the hypotheses, suggesting that humor needs to be tailored to leadership styles to predict interns’ attitudinal and behavioral responses, with different types of humor interacting differently across leadership styles. Implications for further research are discussed.

TL;DR: The Gartner hype cycle concept is used by as mentioned in this paper to explain the path that technologies take in a research lab, usually at a university, and the peak of inflated expectations phase: the technology is discussed by companies at conferences and in the press.
Abstract: EnglishThere are many challenges to reaping the benefits of the newest, emerging technologies. If it were easy, every business would do it and competitive advantage would easily fade away. It is in fact extremely difficult and challenging for companies to create value with emerging technologies. Every year, Gartner, a respected consultancy company, reviews the newest, emerging technologies and uses its hype cycle concept to explain the path that technologies take. The cycle consists of five phases: (i) the technology trigger phase: the invention of new technology that happens in a research lab, usually at a university (most companies outsource their fundamental research to universities nowadays). (ii) the peak of inflated expectations phase: the technology is discussed by companies at conferences and in the press. There is a great deal of talk about the new technology, but no one has used it yet.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the discourse regarding the use of ad blockers and found that three themes emerged: utonomy and control over advertising influence; asymmetry, paradoxes and the quest for equity; and efficiency and convenience.
Abstract: This study investigates the discourse regarding the use of ad blockers. Three themes emerged regarding this technology based on in-depth interviews with consumers who had activated ad blockers: 1) utonomy and control over advertising influence; 2) Internet interactions: asymmetry, paradoxes, and the quest for equity; and 3) Efficiency and convenience. Based on the results, this paper discusses anti-consumption positioning as the study of the “reasons against” consumption. The paper proposes complementary approaches to anti-consumption research, less based on intentional and consumer-conscious aspects and power as an entity disputed by actors and less.
