Abstract
: An atmospheric data base consisting of volume mixing ratios (o0 to 12okm) for twenty eight (28) minor and trace gases has been assembled for use with spectral radiance transmittance models. Six references atmospheres, each defining temperature, pressure and density as a function of altitude (selected from the U.S. Standard Supplements, 1966 and the U.S. Standard Atmosphere, 1976) provide a range of climatological choices. Analogous zonal-mean descriptions for 2O, O3, N2O, CO, and CH4 have been subsequently adapted from satellite data and/or dynamical-photochemical analyses. The remaining species are defined by single profiles, usually appropriate for U.S. Standard conditions. Because the entire profile set is preferentially based on available measurements, explicit photochemical consistency between the different species has not been maintained. The Effect of Instrument Polarization Sensitivity on Sea Surface Remote Sensing with Infrared Spectroradiometers

TL;DR: In this paper, the inherent polarization sensitivity (−5%) of a typical Fourier transform infrared instrument leads to radiometric errors that are small (∼0.1 K) but significant for radiometrically demanding sea surface remote sensing applications at large incidence angles.

The 11-year solar cycle in stratospheric ozone: Comparison between Umkehr and SBUVv8 and effects on surface erythemal irradiance

TL;DR: In this paper, the seasonal influence of the 11-year solar signal in the vertical distribution of stratospheric ozone profiles derived from ground-based Umkehr measurements at five stations and from the merged data set of Solar Backscattered Ultra Violet (SBUVv8) satellite observations are used to estimate the seasonality of ozone in the tropics.

Optical properties of Saharan dust aerosol and contribution from the coarse mode

TL;DR: In this paper, in-situ aircraft measurements of Saharan dust originating from Mali, Mauritania and Algeria taken during the Fennec 2011 aircraft campaign over a remote part of the Sahara Desert are presented.

Simulation of aerosol direct radiative forcing under typical summer conditions of Siberia. Part 1. Method of calculation and choice of input parameters

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a method for calculating the broadband solar radiation fluxes under clear sky conditions based on the combination of a statistic simulation algorithm and a version of the k-distribution method.

Cirrus optical thickness and crystal size retrieval from ATSR-2 data using phase functions of imperfect hexagonal ice crystals

TL;DR: In this article, along track scanning radiometer 2 (ATSR-2) measurements made over a tropical cirrus anvil are analyzed on the basis of radiative transfer calculations for clouds consisting of imperfect hexagonal ice crystals.
