Abstract
: An atmospheric data base consisting of volume mixing ratios (o0 to 12okm) for twenty eight (28) minor and trace gases has been assembled for use with spectral radiance transmittance models. Six references atmospheres, each defining temperature, pressure and density as a function of altitude (selected from the U.S. Standard Supplements, 1966 and the U.S. Standard Atmosphere, 1976) provide a range of climatological choices. Analogous zonal-mean descriptions for 2O, O3, N2O, CO, and CH4 have been subsequently adapted from satellite data and/or dynamical-photochemical analyses. The remaining species are defined by single profiles, usually appropriate for U.S. Standard conditions. Because the entire profile set is preferentially based on available measurements, explicit photochemical consistency between the different species has not been maintained. Keywords: ATMOSPHERIC CONSTITUENTS; TEMPERATURE PROFILES; MODEL ATMOSPHERES.

Efficient calculation of intensity and polarization spectra in vertically inhomogeneous scattering and absorbing atmospheres

TL;DR: In this article, a linear approximation of the vertical distribution of the absorption optical thickness was used to calculate the intensity vector and its derivatives with respect to the optical thickness in different altitude layers of the model atmosphere.

Impact of ship emissions on the microphysical, optical and radiative properties of marine stratus: a case study

TL;DR: In this article, satellite data from MODIS on Terra were used to examine a scene from 10 February 2003 where ship tracks were detected close to the North American West-Coast, and the cloud optical and mi-f physical properties were derived using a semi-analytical re-trieval technique combined with a look-up-table approach.

The physics of near-infrared photography

TL;DR: In this article, the physics behind the sometimes strange effects and "unnatural" appearance of near-infrared (NIR) photographs is discussed in terms of reflection, absorption and transmission of NIR radiation with the respective objects.
