The development of an integrated care model for patients with severe or very severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD): the COPD–Home model
Synnøve Sunde,Rolf A. Walstad,Signe Berit Bentsen,Solfrid J. Lunde,Eva Marie Wangen,Tone Rustøen,Tone Rustøen,Anne Hildur Henriksen +7 more
TL;DR: The COPD-Home model attempts to cultivate competences and behaviours of patients and community nurses that better accord with guidelines for interventions to improve the management of COPD, reduce exacerbations and improve QOL and coping among patients with COPD.
Journal ArticleDOI
Better lung function with increased handgrip strength, as well as maximum oxygen uptake, in congenital heart disease across the lifespan.
TL;DR: Strength was associated with better lung function in all ages even after correction for peak oxygen uptake, regardless of sex and congenital heart disease, suggesting that strength may be at least as important for lung function as aerobic fitness.
Journal ArticleDOI
The dose effect of pulmonary rehabilitation on physical activity, perceived exertion, and quality of life.
TL;DR: The findings of the current study support a significant relationship between PR dose and activity level (maximum MET level achieved) and physical and mental QOL improved clinically after PR.
Journal ArticleDOI
Magnetic Stimulation of the Quadriceps: Analysis of 2 Stimulators Used for Diagnostic and Therapeutic Applications
Víctor Bustamante Madariaga,Amaia Gorostiza Manterola,Elena López De Santa Maria Miro,Juan Bautista Galdiz Iturri +3 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the femoral nerve was modelled as a figure-of-eight coil, and the Medtronic Magpro (MED) device with a circular coil and the Magstim 200 device (MAG) with a figure of eight coil (reference device) were used to stimulate 6 volunteers at different percentages of maximal output.

Bidirectional epithelial–mesenchymal crosstalk provides self-sustaining profibrotic signals in pulmonary fibrosis
Liudi Yao,Yilu Zhou,Juanjuan Li,Leanne Wickens,Franco Conforti,Anna Rattu,Fathima Maneesha Ibrahim,Aiman Alzetani,Ben G. Marshall,Sophie V. Fletcher,David C. Hancock,Tim Wallis,Julian Downward,Rob M. Ewing,Luca Richeldi,Paul Skipp,Donna E. Davies,Mark Jones,Yihua Wang +18 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated bidirectional epithelial-mesenchymal crosstalk and its potential to drive fibrosis progression and found that aberrant epithelial mesenchymycarcinogenesis can drive a chronic feedback loop that maintains a wound-healing phenotype and provides self-sustaining profibrotic signals.

Journal ArticleDOI
Self-efficacy: toward a unifying theory of behavioral change.
TL;DR: An integrative theoretical framework to explain and to predict psychological changes achieved by different modes of treatment is presented and findings are reported from microanalyses of enactive, vicarious, and emotive mode of treatment that support the hypothesized relationship between perceived self-efficacy and behavioral changes.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale.
A. S. Zigmond,R. P. Snaith +1 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that the introduction of the scales into general hospital practice would facilitate the large task of detection and management of emotional disorder in patients under investigation and treatment in medical and surgical departments.
Journal ArticleDOI
An inventory for measuring depression
TL;DR: The difficulties inherent in obtaining consistent and adequate diagnoses for the purposes of research and therapy have been pointed out and a wide variety of psychiatric rating scales have been developed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Self-efficacy: Toward a unifying theory of behavioral change☆☆☆
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present an integrative theoretical framework to explain and predict psychological changes achieved by different modes of treatment, including enactive, vicarious, exhortative, and emotive sources.
Journal ArticleDOI
Psychophysical bases of perceived exertion
TL;DR: A presentation is made of ratio-scaling methods, category methods, especially the Borg Scale for ratings of perceived exertion, and a new method that combines the category method with ratio properties.
