Journal ArticleDOI
A retrospective study on the effects of pulmonary rehabilitation in patients with pulmonary hypertension.
TL;DR: It is found that patients with 6MWTs as low as <250 meters are also candidates for PR and can demonstrate substantial benefits as measured using the 6MW Ts, documenting the utility of PR in patients with PH.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effectiveness of Pulmonary Rehabilitation in Exercise Capacity and Quality of Life in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Patients With and Without Global Fat-Free Mass Depletion
Danilo C. Berton,Leonardo R. Silveira,Cássia Cinara da Costa,Rafael Machado de Souza,Claudia Denicol Winter,Paulo José Zimermann Teixeira,Paulo José Zimermann Teixeira +6 more
TL;DR: Benefits of PR to exercise capacity were similar comparing FFM depleted and nondepleted COPD patients, and although FFM change tended to be greater in depleted patients, this increase had no definite relation with clinical outcomes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Inpatient paediatric rehabilitation in chronic respiratory disorders.
TL;DR: Paediatric rehabilitation programs for chronic respiratory diseases, such as asthma or cystic fibrosis, have been shown to reduce symptoms, increase aerobic fitness and physical strength, improve pulmonary function and inflammation and enhance compliance, self-management, quality of life and psychological symptoms.
Journal ArticleDOI
Exercise‐induced skeletal muscle deoxygenation in O2‐supplemented COPD patients
I. Vogiatzis,Dimitrios Athanasopoulos,Grigoris Stratakos,C. Garagouni,Antonia Koutsoukou,Robert Boushel,Charalambos Roussos,Spyros Zakynthinos +7 more
TL;DR: In O2‐supplemented COPD patients, peripheral muscle oxygenation for a given work load is similar to that in healthy subjects, thus suggesting that skeletal muscle O2 consumption becomes normal for a a given O2 delivery in COPd patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of single-set resistance training on quality of life in COPD patients enrolled in pulmonary rehabilitation.
TL;DR: A threshold effect for exercise training is suggested, such that, once a threshold stimulus has been achieved, further improvements in QOL are not dose-dependent and may be influenced primarily by an increase in upper body strength.

Journal ArticleDOI
Self-efficacy: toward a unifying theory of behavioral change.
TL;DR: An integrative theoretical framework to explain and to predict psychological changes achieved by different modes of treatment is presented and findings are reported from microanalyses of enactive, vicarious, and emotive mode of treatment that support the hypothesized relationship between perceived self-efficacy and behavioral changes.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale.
A. S. Zigmond,R. P. Snaith +1 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that the introduction of the scales into general hospital practice would facilitate the large task of detection and management of emotional disorder in patients under investigation and treatment in medical and surgical departments.
Journal ArticleDOI
An inventory for measuring depression
TL;DR: The difficulties inherent in obtaining consistent and adequate diagnoses for the purposes of research and therapy have been pointed out and a wide variety of psychiatric rating scales have been developed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Self-efficacy: Toward a unifying theory of behavioral change☆☆☆
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present an integrative theoretical framework to explain and predict psychological changes achieved by different modes of treatment, including enactive, vicarious, exhortative, and emotive sources.
Journal ArticleDOI
Psychophysical bases of perceived exertion
TL;DR: A presentation is made of ratio-scaling methods, category methods, especially the Borg Scale for ratings of perceived exertion, and a new method that combines the category method with ratio properties.
