Journal ArticleDOI
Non-pharmacological management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
TL;DR: Optimum management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease requires nonpharmacological interventions combined with pharmacological treatment, but the former is often neglected and not widely used indaily practice, with the focus mainly on the latter.
Journal ArticleDOI
Exercise training to improve exercise capacity and quality of life in people with non-malignant dust-related respiratory diseases
TL;DR: The effects of exercise training for people with non-malignant dust-related respiratory diseases compared with control, placebo or another non-exercise intervention on exercise capacity, health-related quality of life and levels of physical activity were assessed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of Pulmonary Rehabilitation on Gait Characteristics in Patients with COPD.
Wai-Yan Liu,Kenneth Meijer,Jeannet M. Delbressine,Paul Willems,Emiel F.M. Wouters,Martijn A. Spruit +5 more
TL;DR: Training programs specifically targeting balance issues and gait function may be beneficial in improving gait characteristics in COPD, and current PR improved stride time in patients, while movement patterns within stride-to-stride fluctuations did not change.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of exercise training on pulmonary vessel muscularization and right ventricular function in an animal model of COPD
TL;DR: RV function was reduced in mice exposed to cigarette smoke and HIIT attenuated the RV dysfunction in the smoke exposed mice, suggesting that exercise training not only affects the heart muscle, but also has important effects on the pulmonary vasculature.
Dissertation

Journal ArticleDOI
Self-efficacy: toward a unifying theory of behavioral change.
TL;DR: An integrative theoretical framework to explain and to predict psychological changes achieved by different modes of treatment is presented and findings are reported from microanalyses of enactive, vicarious, and emotive mode of treatment that support the hypothesized relationship between perceived self-efficacy and behavioral changes.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale.
A. S. Zigmond,R. P. Snaith +1 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that the introduction of the scales into general hospital practice would facilitate the large task of detection and management of emotional disorder in patients under investigation and treatment in medical and surgical departments.
Journal ArticleDOI
An inventory for measuring depression
TL;DR: The difficulties inherent in obtaining consistent and adequate diagnoses for the purposes of research and therapy have been pointed out and a wide variety of psychiatric rating scales have been developed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Self-efficacy: Toward a unifying theory of behavioral change☆☆☆
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present an integrative theoretical framework to explain and predict psychological changes achieved by different modes of treatment, including enactive, vicarious, exhortative, and emotive sources.
Journal ArticleDOI
Psychophysical bases of perceived exertion
TL;DR: A presentation is made of ratio-scaling methods, category methods, especially the Borg Scale for ratings of perceived exertion, and a new method that combines the category method with ratio properties.
