TLDR
In this article, the directionality of quasi-monochromatic (QM) waves in the mesopause region is found to be highly anisotropic, especially during the solstices.About:

Reverse ray tracing of the mesospheric gravity waves observed at 23°S (Brazil) and 7°S (Indonesia) in airglow imagers
Cristiano Max Wrasse,T. Nakamura,Toshitaka Tsuda,H. Takahashi,Amauri Fragoso de Medeiros,Michael J. Taylor,Delano Gobbi,A. Salatun,Suratno,E. Achmad,A. G. Admiranto +10 more
TL;DR: In this article, a reverse ray tracing method was used to study propagation of gravity waves through the middle atmosphere and to estimate the source region in the troposphere, which corresponds to the region of high tropospheric convection activity in the South American continent during summer and high meteorological front activity on the southwestern side during winter.

Dispersion imposed limits on atmospheric gravity waves in the mesosphere: Observations from OH airglow
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors derived wave phase speeds from airglow observations and Doppler corrected using lidar winds, and combined these measurements with the dispersion relationship, wave momentum and energy fluxes were calculated.

Characteristics of instabilities in the mesopause region over Maui, Hawaii
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the characteristics of convective and dynamical instabilities in the mesopause region (between 85 and 100 km) over Maui, Hawaii (20.7°N, 156.3°W) using 19 nights, ∼133 hours of high-resolution wind and temperature data obtained by the University of Illinois Na wind/temperature lidar during the Maui Mesosphere and Lower Thermosphere (Maui MALT) campaigns.

OH and OI airglow layer modulation by ducted short‐period gravity waves: Effects of trapping altitude
TL;DR: In this article, a 2D numerical model of airglow signatures of short-period gravity waves near the Brunt-Vaisala period is investigated using a 2-dimensional numerical model.
Journal ArticleDOI
A reexamination of evanescent acoustic-gravity waves: Special properties and aeronomical significance
TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that assuming incorrectly that wave energy is the same function of vertical wave number for internal and evanescent waves is equivalent to assuming that the wave energy vanishes when the wave frequency and horizontal wave number approach the characteristic curve-delineating gravity and acoustic solutions.

Extension of the MSIS Thermosphere Model into the middle and lower atmosphere
TL;DR: In this paper, the MSIS-86 empirical model has been extended into the mesosphere and lower atmosphere to provide a single analytic model for calculating temperature and density profiles representative of the climatological average for various geophysical conditions.

TL;DR: In this article, the HWM90 thermospheric wind model has been revised in the lower thermosphere and extended into the mesosphere, stratosphere and lower atmosphere to provide a single analytic model for calculating zonal and meridional wind profiles representative of the climatological average for various geophysical conditions.

Gravity wave activity in the lower atmosphere: Seasonal and latitudinal variations
Simon J. Allen,Robert A. Vincent +1 more
TL;DR: A climatology of gravity wave activity in the lower atmosphere based on high-resolution radiosonde measurements provided by the Australian Bureau of Meteorology is presented in this article, where the vertical wavenumber power spectra of normalized temperature fluctuations are calculated within both the troposphere and the lower stratosphere and compared with the predictions of current gravity wave saturation theories.

Interpretations of observed climatological patterns in stratospheric gravity wave variance
TL;DR: In this paper, a linear model of gravity wave propagation is applied to investigate the underlying causes of some of the observed patterns, and the model shows that this coupling can give rise to geographical, seasonal, and vertical variations in gravity wave observations without any variations in the spectrum or amplitude of the sources in the troposphere.

A Climatology of Gravity Wave Motions in the Mesopause Region at Adelaide, Australia
TL;DR: In this paper, a statistical study of gravity wave motions in the mesosphere and lower thermosphere measured with a MF partial reflection radar located at Buckland Park new Adelaide (35°S, 138°E) in the period November 1933 to December 1984 is presented.
