Journal ArticleDOI

Regional analysis of neostriatal cholinergic and dopaminergic receptor binding and tyrosine hydroxylase activity as a function of aging.

TL;DR: The results, when considered with previous data, suggest that in selected striatal regions in the Sprague Dawley rat the cholinergic system is more vulnerable than the dopaminergic system to aging effects.
Journal ArticleDOI

Glucocorticoid-cholinergic interactions in the dorsal striatum in memory consolidation of inhibitory avoidance training.

TL;DR: There are mutual interactions between glucocorticoids and the striatal cholinergic system in enhancing the consolidation of memory of inhibitory avoidance training, and this research indicates that long-term memory may be formed through interactions within the dorsal striatum of the rat.
Journal ArticleDOI

Improvement of learned behavior through cholinergic stimulation of the caudate nucleus

TL;DR: To test the hypothesis that cholinergic activity of the head of the caudate nucleus (CN) is involved in the processes underlying instrumental performance, the effects of microinjections of several doses of choline into this structure on lever pressing behavior were assessed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Intra-regional variations in the effect of aging on high affinity choline uptake, choline acetyltransferase and muscarinic cholinergic receptors in rat neostriatum.

TL;DR: High affinity sodium-dependent choline uptake, choline acetyltransferase and quinuclidinyl benzilate binding ([3H]-QNB) are measured in synaptosomal preparations from four areas of the neostriatum of Fischer 344 rats of three different ages to reflect altered activity of cholinergic neurons in specific striatal subregions.

Statistical Principles in Experimental Design

TL;DR: In this article, the authors introduce the principles of estimation and inference: means and variance, means and variations, and means and variance of estimators and inferors, and the analysis of factorial experiments having repeated measures on the same element.
Journal ArticleDOI

Statistical Principles in Experimental Design

TL;DR: This chapter discusses design and analysis of single-Factor Experiments: Completely Randomized Design and Factorial Experiments in which Some of the Interactions are Confounded.

Dopamine (3-hydroxytyramine) and brain function

TL;DR: A good case can be made for the concept that the physiological activity of the brain dopamine is quite different from that of brain norepinephrine, although there are as yet no experiments to positively show that dopamine is a true neuro-transmitter substance in the brain.
