Channel Capabilities, Product Characteristics, and the Impacts of Mobile Channel Introduction

TLDR
A theoretical framework for understanding the interactions between mobile and traditional online channels for products with different characteristics suggests that the performance impact of the mobile channel depends crucially on the two product characteristics and the resulting product-channel fit.
Abstract
Drawing on the notion of channel capability, we develop a theoretical ramework for understanding the interactions between mobile and traditional online channels for products with different characteristics. Specifically, we identify two channel capabilities—access and search capabilities—that differentiate mobile and online channels, and two product characteristics that are directly related to the channel capabilities—time criticality and information intensity. Based on this framework, we generate a set of predictions on the differential effects of mobile channel introduction across different product categories. We test the predictions by applying a counterfactual analysis based on vector autoregression to a large panel data set from a leading e-market in Korea that covers a 28-month period and contains all of the transactions made through the online and mobile channels before and after the mobile channel introduction. Consistent with our theoretical predictions, our results suggest that the performance im...

Customer engagement through omnichannel retailing: The effects of channel integration quality

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed and tested a research model of customer engagement in the context of omnichannel retailing and found that channel integration quality dimensions (including breadth of channel service choice, transparency of channel-service configuration, content consistency, and process consistency) positively influenced customer engagement which in turn led to positive word-of-mouth and repurchase intention.

The Ecosystem of Software Platform:: A Study of Asymmetric Cross-Side Network Effects and Platform Governance

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined how cross-side network effects on different platform sides (app-side and user-side) are temporally asymmetric, and how these CNEs are influenced by the platform's governance policies.

The Ecosystem of Software Platform: A Study of Asymmetric Cross-Side Network Effects and Platform Governance

TL;DR: This study theorizes how the user-to-application CNE is temporally different from the application- to-user CNE, and how these CNEs may be influenced by the governance mechanisms of the platform, and empirically test the theoretical arguments using a longitudinal data about a leading software browser.

How habit limits the predictive power of intention: the case of information systems continuance

TL;DR: The results support the argument that habit acts as a moderating variable of the relationship between intentions and IS continuance behavior, which may put a boundary condition on the explanatory power of intentions in the context of continued IS usage.

Direct Marketing, Indirect Profits: A Strategic Analysis of Dual-Channel Supply-Chain Design

TL;DR: This model constructs a price-setting game between a manufacturer and its independent retailer and shows that the mere threat of introducing the direct channel can increase the manufacturer's negotiated share of cooperative profits even if price efficiency is obtained by using other business practices.

Internet Business Models and Strategies: Text and Cases

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a business model and strategies for valuing companies' Internet efforts, and present a framework that allows users to make more informed theory-based arguments as to how successful an Internet-based firm is likely to be, how much it might be worth, and the relative merits of formulating and implementing an Internet strategy for an established firm.

An assessment of value creation in mobile service delivery and the moderating role of time consciousness

TL;DR: In this article, the authors developed a framework that incorporates three mode-specific benefits (time convenience, user control, and service compatibility) as antecedents of perceived value of a new service delivery mode, the mobile channel, and investigated the moderating influence of consumers' time consciousness.
