Journal ArticleDOI
A possible role for garnet pyroxenite in the origin of the “garnet signature” in MORB
TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that a significant fraction of the melting in MORB source regions takes place in the garnet peridotite field, an inference that places the onset of melting at ≥ 80 km.
Journal ArticleDOI
Extraction of mid-ocean-ridge basalt from the upwelling mantle by focused flow of melt in dunite channels
TL;DR: This paper showed that peridotites from the mantle section of the Oman ophiolite are far from equilibrium with mid-ocean-ridge basalt (MORB), indicating that they were conduits for focused melt flow.
Journal ArticleDOI
Highly siderophile element composition of the Earth’s primitive upper mantle: Constraints from new data on peridotite massifs and xenoliths
Harry Becker,Harry Becker,Mary F. Horan,Richard J. Walker,Shan Gao,Jean-Pierre Lorand,Roberta L. Rudnick +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors used the HSE composition of fertile lherzolites to constrain the origin of the highly siderophile element (HSE) excess in Earth's mantle.
Book ChapterDOI
Orogenic, ophiolitic and abyssal peridotites
TL;DR: Orogenic, ophiolitic, and abyssal peridotites represent subcontinental, suboceanic, and subarc mantle rocks that were exhumed to the surface in various tectonic settings as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI
Experimentally determined stability of alkali amphibole in metasomatised dunite at sub-arc pressures
TL;DR: The phase and melting relationship of olivine mixed with 25 % of hydrous felsic slab melt have been determined in piston-cylinder experiments between 2.5 and 4.5 GPa, providing evidence that this hydrous phase might be stable at subarc depths in an alkali-rich, Ca-poor mantle wedge as discussed by the authors.
