Countercurrent bubble and slug flows in a vertical system

TLDR
In this paper, a model for estimating void fraction in countercurrent bubbly and slug flows in vertical systems, based on the drift-flux approach, is presented, and the parameter C 0 in the countercurrent bubble flow is 2.0, a value much higher than the generally accepted one of 1.2 for cocurrent flow.

A model on water level dynamics in natural circulation drum-type boilers

TL;DR: In this article, a model for water level dynamics in the drum-riser-downcomer loop of a natural circulation drum-type boiler is presented based on basic conservation rules of mass, momentum, and energy, together with well-known constitutional equations.

Annular Gap Bubble Column: Experimental Investigation and Computational Fluid Dynamics Modeling

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the countercurrent gas-liquid flow in an annular gap bubble column with a 0.24 m inner diameter by using experimental and numerical investigations, and showed that the errors in the global holdup and in the local properties are below 7% and 16%, respectively, in the range considered.

Tomographic imaging of counter-current bubbly flow by wire mesh tomography

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the characteristics of counter-current bubblebly flow in a circular pipe with an inner diameter of 50mm by using wire mesh tomography (WMT), and the accuracy of WMT on void fraction measurement is also clarified by comparing the result with a nonintrusive optical method.

Velocity of large drops and bubbles in media of infinite or restricted extent

TL;DR: In this paper, a simple method of calculating the terminal velocity of fluid particles moving in media of either infinite or restricted extent was proposed. But this method was not suitable for the case of liquid drops falling through gaseous media and gave only a rough approximation.

Hydrodynamic model for gas‐liquid slug flow in vertical tubes

TL;DR: A series of equations based on the physical processes thought to take place during slug flow were developed in this paper to predict the hydrodynamic character of this complex flow pattern, which appeared to validate the model.

Gas hold-up in bubble columns

TL;DR: In this paper, a dimensionless correlation for the fractional gas hold-up in a 10 cm I.D. bubble column with a single-nozzle gas sparger was presented and shown to correlate the experimental data with an average deviation of 4.2%.

Two-phase flow in vertical and inclined annuli

TL;DR: In this article, the drift-flux approach is adapted to estimate void fraction during upward cocurrent two-phase flow in annuli, and the predictions of the proposed method for flow pattern transition and void fraction are compared with experimental data gathered for this work as well as from independent sources.
