Determination of mechanical properties and full-field strain measurements of rock material under dynamic loads

TLDR
A detailed experimental procedure for the quantitative determination of mechanical properties and full-field strain measurement of rock material under dynamic loads was presented in this paper, where three kinds of testing methods, i.e., notched semi-circular bending, Brazilian disc, and uniaxial compression, were conducted using a split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) system.

Dynamic rock tests using split Hopkinson (Kolsky) bar system – A review

TL;DR: In this paper, a detailed review of the detailed procedures and principles of techniques for dynamic rock tests using split Hopkinson bars is presented, followed by the key loading techniques that are useful for dynamic tests with SHPB (i.e., pulse shaping, momentum-trap and multi-axial loading techniques).

Effect of loading rate on fracture toughness and failure micromechanisms in marble

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used a micromechanical model to examine the intergranular and transgranular fracture properties of a marble and found that fracture toughness and surface roughness were dependent on loading rate.

Experimental investigation of thermal effects on dynamic behavior of granite

TL;DR: In this article, the authors evaluate the thermal effects on the geophysical properties of granite and show that the dynamic strength decreases linearly as temperature increases but increases as the impact pressure increases.

An Investigation of the Mechanical Properties of Materials at very High Rates of Loading

TL;DR: In this article, a method of determining the stress-strain relation of materials when stresses are applied for times of the order of 20 microseconds is described, using a modification of the Hopkinson pressure bar and detonators were used to produce large transient stresses.

Digital image correlation using Newton-Raphson method of partial differential correction

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors developed and limited experimental verification of a method which can determine displacements and gradients using the Newton-Raphson method of partial corrections, which was shown to be accurate in determining displacement and certain gradients, while using significantly less CPU time than the current coarse-fine search method.
