Journal ArticleDOI

Characteristics of an immune system common to certain external secretions

TL;DR: The γ1A present in saliva and colostrum exists largely in the form of higher polymers, the major component of which has a sedimentation coefficient of 11S, and its properties including the local production of a distinctive type of antibody separate it from the "systemic" system responsible for the production of circulating antibody.
Journal ArticleDOI

Retinol-binding protein: the transport protein for vitamin A in human plasma

TL;DR: In plasma, RBP apparently circulates as a complex, together with another, larger protein with prealbumin mobility on electrophoresis, which appears to involve both a lipid-protein (retinol-RBP) interaction and a protein- protein (RBP-prealbumin) interaction.
Journal ArticleDOI

Enhancement of structural preservation and immunocytochemical staining in low temperature embedded pancreatic tissue.

TL;DR: Compared to conventional Epon embedding of glutaraldehyde fixed tissue, the low temperature embedding method with Lowicryl K4M resulted in a superior preservation of the general cellular fine structure, particularly in the Golgi apparatus.
