Journal ArticleDOI
Element segregation and α2 formation in primary α of a near-α Ti-alloy
Claudius Dichtl,Zhenbo Zhang,H. M. Gardner,Paul A. J. Bagot,Anna Radecka,David Dye,Matthew Thomas,Matthew Thomas,Rebecca Sandala,João Quinta da Fonseca,Michael Preuss +10 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a detailed chemical and structural analysis was carried out by combining Electron Probe Micro Analysis (EPMA), Wavelength Dispersive Spectroscopy (WDS), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), and Atom Probe Tomography (APT) for investigating local compositional variations and their effect on the formation of α2 precipitates.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of cold work on recrystallization behavior and grain size distribution in titanium
TL;DR: The effect of cold work in the range of 21.9 pct to 94.2 pct reduction in area by swaging on the recrystallization behavior and grain size distribution in Ti was investigated in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI
Impurity (Fe, Cl, and P)-Induced Grain Boundary and Secondary Phases in Commercially Pure Titanium (CP-Ti)
TL;DR: In this article, a detailed transmission electron microscopy (TEM) study has been made of the microstructures of two as-sintered CP-Ti materials, and it has been shown that iron content at the impurity level of 1280-ppm, less than the limit (2000ppm) for ASTM Grade 1, is sufficient to lead to the formation of a grain boundary (GB) β-Ti phase due to segregation.
Journal ArticleDOI
First-principles prediction of oxygen diffusivity near the (101¯2) twin boundary in titanium
TL;DR: In this paper, the diffusivity of oxygen interstitials around a ( 10 1 ¯ 2 ) twin boundary in Titanium was studied and it was shown that the site energies and the barriers are consistently lower than in bulk, suggesting the higher tendency of oxygen to segregate to the twin boundary region.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of texture and temperature gradient on anisotropic plastic deformation of commercially pure titanium at room and low temperatures
TL;DR: In this paper, a study of deformation anisotropy of rolled grade 1 commercially pure titanium (CP-Ti) in the temperature range -115-20°C was performed with samples dipped in liquid nitrogen for ~15 min.

The deformation of plastically non-homogeneous materials
TL;DR: The geometrically necessary dislocations as discussed by the authors were introduced to distinguish them from the statistically storages in pure crystals during straining and are responsible for the normal 3-stage hardening.
