TLDR
A high-efficiency expression vector is constructed to direct the synthesis of heterologous polypeptides in yeast to produce derivatives of the calf chymosin cDNA gene, which can be readily activated to produce an enzyme which has milk-clotting activity.

Identification and comparison of stable and unstable mRNAs in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

TL;DR: Stable and unstable mRNAs do not differ significantly in their poly(A) metabolism; deadenylation does not destabilize stable m RNAs; there is no correlation between mRNA decay rate and mRNA size; and the degradation of both stable and unstablemRNAs depends on concomitant translational elongation.

Xylose-metabolizing Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains overexpressing the TKL1 and TAL1 genes encoding the pentose phosphate pathway enzymes transketolase and transaldolase

TL;DR: The results indicate that the transaldolase level in S. cerevisiae is insufficient for the efficient utilization of pentose phosphate pathway metabolites.

Drosophila Brain Tumor is a translational repressor.

TL;DR: The results of these experiments suggest that NHL domain proteins are recruited to various mRNAs by combinatorial protein-protein interactions.

Potential Impact of Increased Use of Biocides in Consumer Products on Prevalence of Antibiotic Resistance

TL;DR: It is concluded from this review of the literature that the incorporation of antibacterial agents into a widening sphere of personal products has had little or no impact on the patterns of microbial susceptibility observed in the environment, and the associated risks remain finite.
Journal ArticleDOI

Kluyveromyces as a host for heterologous gene expression: expression and secretion of prochymosin.

TL;DR: It is concluded that the efficient synthetic and secretory capacity of this heterologous protein is a property of the yeast Kluyveromyces, and led to the development of a large scale production process for chymosin.

Cleavage of Structural Proteins during the Assembly of the Head of Bacteriophage T4

TL;DR: Using an improved method of gel electrophoresis, many hitherto unknown proteins have been found in bacteriophage T4 and some of these have been identified with specific gene products.

A rapid and sensitive method for the quantitation of microgram quantities of protein utilizing the principle of protein-dye binding

TL;DR: This assay is very reproducible and rapid with the dye binding process virtually complete in approximately 2 min with good color stability for 1 hr with little or no interference from cations such as sodium or potassium nor from carbohydrates such as sucrose.

A rapid boiling method for the preparation of bacterial plasmids

TL;DR: A simple and rapid method for preparing plasmids for restriction enzyme analysis has been developed and can be readily adapted for the preparation of plasmid from liter cultures with quantitative yields.
