Experimental hepatitis induced by d-galactosamine

TL;DR: Repeated intraperitoneal injections of d-galactosamine produce within 24–48 hours in rat livers alterations that closely resemble human viral hepatitis, indicating a high specificity of d -galactoamine.
Journal ArticleDOI

Biosynthesis of glycogen from uridine diphosphate glucose.

TL;DR: Using UDPG labeled in the glucose moiety, it was found that the radioactivity was transferred to the glycogen from which it could be removed as maltose with β-amylase or as G-1-P with phosphorylase, suggesting that the glucose residue becomes linked α (1 → 4) to the polysaccharide.
Journal ArticleDOI

The biosynthesis of trehalose phosphate

TL;DR: Crystalline barium glucose g-phosphate was obtained from the Sigma Chemical Company, St. Louis, and intestinal phosphatase from Armour and Company, Chicago and the phosphat enzyme was dialyzed overnight against cold distilled water before use.

Chronic nonhemolytic unconjugated hyperbilirubinemia with glucuronyl transferase deficiency: Clinical, biochemical, pharmacologic and genetic evidence for heterogeneity

TL;DR: The evidence presented supports the view that enzyme induction may be occurring and that chronic nonhemolytic unconjugated hyperbilirubinemia with hepatic glucuronyl transferase deficiency occurs in two forms which appear to be phenotypically homogeneous but are genotypically heterogeneous.

Protein Measurement with the Folin Phenol Reagent

TL;DR: Procedures are described for measuring protein in solution or after precipitation with acids or other agents, and for the determination of as little as 0.2 gamma of protein.

Reversible enzymatic synthesis of diphosphopyridine nucleotide and inorganic pyrophosphate

TL;DR: An enzyme has now been purified from yeast and liver which catalyzes the reversible synthesis of DPN and PP according to equation (1), which shows that the production of inorganic pyrophosphate was not a result of simple hydrolysis of adenosine triphosphate (ATP).
Journal ArticleDOI

On the Mechanism of the Decomposition of Hydrogen Peroxide by Catalase

TL;DR: In a previous paper (Keilin and Hartree 1936) it was shown that catalase combines reversibly not only with KCN and H2S but also with NaN3, NH2OH, N2H4, NaF and NO, giving corresponding spectroscopically well defined compounds.
