Journal ArticleDOI
Constitutive expression of bcl-2 in B cells causes a lethal form of lupuslike autoimmune disease after induction of neonatal tolerance to H-2b alloantigens.
Marcos López-Hoyos,Roberto Carrio,Ramón Merino,Luis Buelta,Shozo Izui,Gabriel Núñez,Jesús Merino +6 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that bcl-2 can provide survival signals for the maintenance and differentiation of autoreactive B cells, and suggested that both increased B cell survival and T cell help play critical roles in the development of certain forms of systemic autoimmune disease.

Pathogenesis of anti-basement membrane glomerulopathy and immune-complex glomerulonephritis: dichotomy dissolved.
TL;DR: In this paper, the etiologic factors are described that are known to operate in animal models of human immunologically mediated glomerulonephritis, and a brief review of the earlier work in such animal models is given, followed by a discussion of the meaning of recent observations, which shed new light on existing theories concerning the pathogenesis of immunologically-mediated glomerulephritis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Relevance of experimental-models for human nephropathology
P. J. Hoedemaeker,Jan J. Weening +1 more
TL;DR: The relationship of experimentally produced renal lesions to Bright's disease is still a major concern of present day pathology even though the problem has for many years held the attention and interest of numerous investigators.
Journal ArticleDOI
Renal immunopathology in murine host-versus-graft disease.
Sandrine Florquin,Daniel Abramowicz,E de Heer,J A Bruijn,Jean-Marc Doutrelepont,Michel Goldman,P Hoedemaeker +6 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that mice neonatally injected with semi-allogeneic spleen cells develop a glomerulonephritis characterized by the transition from a linear to a granular IF pattern, and that the production of nephritogenic antibodies results from the activation of donor B cells by host helper T cells.

An air-drying technique for flattening chromosomes in mammalian oells grown in vitro.
K H Rothfels,L Siminovitch +1 more
TL;DR: The method described was developed to facilitate the analysis of chromosome complements in cells freshly isolated from monkey kidney cortex and growing on glass, and in “altered” monkey cells grown on glass or in suspension.
Journal ArticleDOI
Malignant lymphomas following allogenic disease: transition from an immunological to a neoplastic disorder.
TL;DR: The graft versus host reaction which occurs in F1 hybrid mice injected with parental spleen cells was used to examine several immunological theories of neoplasia and indicates that the tumors were of host rather than donor origin.
Journal ArticleDOI
Thymectomy in newborn and adult mice.
Journal ArticleDOI
Immunopathology of new zealand black (nzb) mice.
East J,de Sousa Ma,Parrott Dm +2 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that the thymus of NZB mice is unable to control the balance of lymphocytes, plasma cells, and reticulum cells throughout the body and that the animals may be immunologically hyperactive to antigenic stimuli of many kinds.
