Journal ArticleDOI
Mode II fracture testing method for highly orthotropic materials like wood
TL;DR: In this article, a mode II fracture testing method has been developed for wood from analytical, experimental and numerical investigations, which can be used for measuring fracture toughness for highly orthotropic materials like wood.
Journal ArticleDOI
Influence of layer bonding on the prediction of pavement life
K Khweir,Derek Fordyce +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, it is shown that pavement performance can be seriously compromised by interface problems, even though the performance of an individual layer may be very high, and that pavements may fail with traffic volumes far less than the design values in spite of the fact that individual layers may exhibit reasonably high dynamic stiffness modulus values, high permanent deformation resistance and high fatigue properties.
Journal ArticleDOI
An embedded cohesive crack model for finite element analysis of brickwork masonry fracture
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a numerical procedure for fracture of brickwork masonry based on the strong discontinuity approach, which is an extension of the cohesive model prepared by the authors for concrete, and takes into account the anisotropy of the material.
Journal ArticleDOI
Freeze-thaw and thermal degradation influence on the fracture properties of carbon and glass fiber reinforced polymer concrete
João Reis,António Ferreira +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the influence on the fracture properties of fiber reinforced polymer concrete, FRPC, subjected to freeze-thaw and thermal degradation, is discussed and the study on the damage influence was conducted using a climate chamber to perform the temperature changes on the single edge notched beams.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of fiber strength on fracture characteristics of normal and high strength concrete
TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of steel fiber strength on the mechanical properties of reinforced concretes, such as compressive strength, modulus of elasticity, splitting tensile strength, flexural strength, fracture energy and characteristics length have been investigated within the scope of this study.
