Freezing-thawing induces alterations in histone H1-DNA binding and the breaking of protein-DNA disulfide bonds in boar sperm

TLDR
Results suggest that the boar-sperm nuclear structure is heterogeneous suggesting the existence of a zonated pattern, differing in their total DNA density and the compactness of the precise nucleoprotein structures present in each zone.

Sperm cryopreservation update: Cryodamage, markers, and factors affecting the sperm freezability in pigs.

TL;DR: The present work summarizes the principles of cryoinjury and the relevance of permeating and nonpermeating cryoprotective agents and speculates with new research horizons on the preservation of boar sperm, such as vitrification and freeze-drying.
Journal ArticleDOI

Sperm cryopreservation: A review on current molecular cryobiology and advanced approaches.

TL;DR: Current freezing techniques and novel strategies that have been developed for sperm protection against cryo-damage are discussed, as well as evaluating the probable effects of sperm freezing on offspring health.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cryotolerance of stallion spermatozoa is related to ROS production and mitochondrial membrane potential rather than to the integrity of sperm nucleus

TL;DR: It is concluded that good and poor freezability stallion ejaculates differ in their reactive oxygen species levels after cryopreservation, but not in the damage extent on sperm nucleus.

Recent Advances in Boar Sperm Cryopreservation: State of the Art and Current Perspectives

TL;DR: Most of these progresses have allowed counteracting better boar sperm cryodamage and are thus considered as forward steps for this storage method.

Artificial insemination with frozen‐thawed boar sperm

TL;DR: In sum, artificial insemination with frozen‐thawed boar sperm can provide reasonable fertility outcomes, if freezable ejaculates, specific additives, and appropriate Insemination techniques are used.

Cleavage of Structural Proteins during the Assembly of the Head of Bacteriophage T4

TL;DR: Using an improved method of gel electrophoresis, many hitherto unknown proteins have been found in bacteriophage T4 and some of these have been identified with specific gene products.

A rapid and sensitive method for the quantitation of microgram quantities of protein utilizing the principle of protein-dye binding

TL;DR: This assay is very reproducible and rapid with the dye binding process virtually complete in approximately 2 min with good color stability for 1 hr with little or no interference from cations such as sodium or potassium nor from carbohydrates such as sucrose.

“Western Blotting”: Electrophoretic transfer of proteins from sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gels to unmodified nitrocellulose and radiographic detection with antibody and radioiodinated protein A

TL;DR: The detection of murine leukemia virus antigens in complex cellular lysates was used to demonstrate the efficacy of this electrophoretic transfer technique.

Generation of reactive oxygen species, lipid peroxidation, and human sperm function.

TL;DR: Results are consistent with a causative role for lipid peroxidation in the etiology of defective sperm function and also suggest a possible physiological role for the reactive oxygen species generated by human spermatozoa in mediating sperm-zona interaction.
