TLDR
The approach of this book to geochemistry can be summarized in the question: What happens, and how fast does it happen, when waters, solids, and gases interact in the earth's surface environment? The environment of the earths surface is made of solids and fluids, and the interactions among them are responsible for much of what is taking place in the physical world around us as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract
The approach of this book to geochemistry can be summarized in the question: What happens, and how fast does it happen, when waters, solids, and gases interact in the earths surface environment? The environment of the earths surface is made of solids and fluids, and theinteractions among them are responsible for much of what is taking place in the physical world around us. The dissolved load of natural waters and the materials of which sediments are made are the products of reactions taking place practically everywhere on land, in the atmosphere, and in the hydrosphere. Thus the term water and sediment environments applies effectivelly to much of the surface environment of the earth, including the zone of up to a few kilometers above and below the land and ocean surface. Evolution present itself to us as a more or less complex variety of processes-geological, physical, chemical, and biological. To this end, the inclusive title Geochemical Processes was chosen for the book, to introduce a text that emphasizes processes and time-dependent phenomena.

Mathematical analysis of the whole core injection method accuracy for measuring phenanthrene biodegradation rates in undisturbed marine sediments

TL;DR: A mathematical simulation described competing contaminant 14C-phenanthrene diffusion and simultaneous biodegradation (Monod kinetics) in contaminated, undisturbed marine sediments to assess microbial natural attenuation activity as a function of sediment depth, and provided quantitative guidelines for the successful use of the whole core injection method.

Hydrogeological investigations of backfilled surface coal mine sites

TL;DR: In this article, a two-dimensional numerical finite element model called SEEPAV has been used for predicting the inflow of water into a surface mine working, which can be used by mine operators and environmental engineers to control the quality of mine drainage in a backfilled open cut mine operation.

Mass Transfer Mechanism

TL;DR: In the water-rock interaction process, reaction, diffusion and advection are involved as discussed by the authors, which involve reaction, diffusion, and advocation of water and rocks.

Role of Scirpus mariqueter on Methane Emission from an Intertidal Saltmarsh of Yangtze Estuary

TL;DR: The role of wetland plant (Scirpus mariqueter) on CH4 emissions from a subtropical tidal saltmarsh of Yangtze estuary was investigated over a year as mentioned in this paper.

Response of N2O emissions to elevated water depth regulation: comparison of rhizosphere versus non-rhizosphere of Phragmites australis in a field-scale study

TL;DR: New insights are provided into inorganic nitrogen biogeochemical cycles in freshwater sediment ecosystems in Phragmites australis to determine if they accelerated N2O emissions and the release of in organic nitrogen.
