Abstract
The approach of this book to geochemistry can be summarized in the question: What happens, and how fast does it happen, when waters, solids, and gases interact in the earths surface environment? The environment of the earths surface is made of solids and fluids, and theinteractions among them are responsible for much of what is taking place in the physical world around us. The dissolved load of natural waters and the materials of which sediments are made are the products of reactions taking place practically everywhere on land, in the atmosphere, and in the hydrosphere. Thus the term water and sediment environments applies effectivelly to much of the surface environment of the earth, including the zone of up to a few kilometers above and below the land and ocean surface. Evolution present itself to us as a more or less complex variety of processes-geological, physical, chemical, and biological. To this end, the inclusive title Geochemical Processes was chosen for the book, to introduce a text that emphasizes processes and time-dependent phenomena.

Diffusion of municipal waste contaminants in compacted lateritic soil treated with bagasse ash

TL;DR: In this article, compacted lateritic soil treated with up to 12% bagasse ash and municipal solid waste (MSW) leachate sourced from a domestic waste land fill were used in diffusion test studies to access the diffusion characteristics of some inorganic species present in the municipal liquid leachates, and diffusion test results generally showed that diffusion is an active means of transport of chemical species even at very low flow rates in the compacted soil-bagasse ash mixes.

Concentration and size distribution of particles in abstracted groundwater

TL;DR: Comparing the measured particle size distribution with the Pareto distribution shows that particles with a diameter >7 microm are under-represented, which points to exhaustion of the particle supply in the aquifer around wells due to groundwater abstraction for many years.

TL;DR: In this article, Gauthier et al. reported light hydrocarbon profiles in the sea water, brines and metalliferous sediment interstitial waters of the Atlantis II Deep (Red Sea) and reported that the hydrocarbon gases dissolved in these waters are apparently of a thermogenic origin as evidenced by C1/(C2 + C3) ratios ranging from 5 to 33.
