This paper examines from the motivational perspective of the Theory of Reasoned Action (TRA) how individual values and attitudes in a developing country influence purchase intention of a green product. It also investigates how values may affect attitudes towards environmentally responsible purchase intention. The study analyzed data collected from 257 working respondents who were asked their views concerning their value sets, attitudes and purchase intention of cloth diapers using the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) technique. Findings indicate individual consequences relating to amount of effort and convenience of consumers is negatively related to intention to purchase green product. Environmental consequences are not a significant predictor of environmentally responsible purchase intention. Conservation value was found to be positively related to attitude on environmental consequences but less intensely with individual consequences while both self-transcendence value and self-enhancement value were positively related to individual consequences. Individual consequences and self-enhancement value were negatively related to environmentally responsible purchase intention. This paper has shown that the extended TRA is applicable and also this paper has enhanced understanding of predictors of environmentally responsible purchase intention in a developing country context.read more

A comprehensive model of the psychology of environmental behaviour—A meta-analysis
TL;DR: In this article, a comprehensive model of determinants of individual environmentally relevant behavior based on a combination of the most common theories in environmental psychology is proposed, which is tested using a meta-analytical structural equation modeling approach based on 56 different data sets with a variety of target behaviours.

What affects green consumer behavior in China? A case study from Qingdao
TL;DR: In this article, a theoretical framework of green consumer behavior was developed to determine the effects of personal influence, knowledge of green consumption, attitudes toward green consumption and internal and external moderators and examined whether these effects differ significantly among purchasing, using and recycling behaviors.

Sustaining the environment through recycling: An empirical study
TL;DR: Findings indicate that environmental awareness was significantly related to attitude towards recycling, whilst attitude and social norms had significant impact on recycling behaviour, however, convenience and cost of recycling were not significant reasons for recycling.

The theory of planned behavior
TL;DR: Ajzen, 1985, 1987, this article reviewed the theory of planned behavior and some unresolved issues and concluded that the theory is well supported by empirical evidence and that intention to perform behaviors of different kinds can be predicted with high accuracy from attitudes toward the behavior, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control; and these intentions, together with perceptions of behavioral control, account for considerable variance in actual behavior.

Universals in the Content and Structure of Values: Theoretical Advances and Empirical Tests in 20 Countries
TL;DR: In this paper, the universals in the content and structure of values, concentrating on the theoretical advances and empirical tests in 20 countries, and its four basic issues: substantive contents of human values; identification of comprehensive set of values; extent to which the meaning of particular values was equivalent for different groups of people; and how the relations among different values was structured.
