TLDR
The editors state in their preface that they are presenting "a new way to look at preventive medicine for the medical students, general practitioners, specialists, and professional workers in official and voluntary health agencies."
Abstract
municable disease control to the newer responsibilities of the hazards of ionizing radiation and medical defense against atomic attack. The individual topics are adequately developed with emphasis, in the majority, on brevity of presentation rather than complete and exhaustive detail. References are listed after each chapter for the reader desiring more definitive information. \"Epidemiologic Methods and Inferences\" by Dr. Dienfeld and \"Official and Voluntary Health Agencies\" by Dr. Hilleboe are two chapters which offer especially well-organized, succinct, and effective discussions of their respective subjects. The editors state in their preface that they are presenting \". . a new way to look at preventive medicine for the medical students, general practitioners, specialists, and professional workers in official and voluntary health agencies.\" In the opinion of the reviewer, the authors have achieved their purpose by editing a book which is more an introductory text than a reference tome.

Journal ArticleDOI

The yo-yo intermittent recovery test: physiological response, reliability, and validity.

TL;DR: The Yo-Yo intermittent recovery test was a valid measure of fitness performance in soccer and had a high reproducibility and sensitivity, allowing for detailed analysis of the physical capacity of athletes in intermittent sports.
Journal ArticleDOI

New cytoplasmic components in arterial endothelia.

TL;DR: A hitherto unknown rod-shaped cytoplasmic component which consists of a bundle of fine tubules, enveloped by a tightly fitted membrane, was regularly found in endothelial cells of small arteries in various organs in rat and man.
Journal ArticleDOI

Myogenic Vector Expression of Insulin-like Growth Factor I Stimulates Muscle Cell Differentiation and Myofiber Hypertrophy in Transgenic Mice *

TL;DR: Results indicate that sustained overexpression of IGF-I in skeletal muscle elicits myofiber hypertrophy and provides the basis for manipulation of muscle physiology utilizing skeletal α-actin-based vectors.
Journal ArticleDOI

Fiber types and metabolic potentials of skeletal muscles in sedentary man and endurance runners

TL;DR: This description of some of the present knowledge on skeletal muscle fibers, their metabolic potentials, and their interplay with the degree of physical activity has revealed that skeletal muscle of man has a very large capacity for adaptation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Pathologic analysis of photothermal and photomechanical effects of laser-tissue interactions.

TL;DR: Anatomic pathologic analysis of laser‐induced lesions reveals alterations that represent either specific markers of the photobiologic mechanism or non‐specific reactions to tissue injury.

Modulation of Stem and Progenitor Cells and Bleomycin-induced Pulmonary Fibrosis by Spiperone in Mice

TL;DR: A selective antagonist D2 of dopamine receptors spiperone can act as a potential antifibrotic agent for the treatment of toxic pulmonary fibrosis and is able to influence the stem and progenitor cells in lung pathology effectively.
Journal ArticleDOI

Pathology of the heart and blood vessels

TL;DR: A modified technique has been developed to improve colour separation and to eliminate much of the unwanted background Gram- negative stain in infected tooth tissue and can make the microscopic diagnosis of the presence of Gram-negative forms in smears and tissue sections much easier.
Journal ArticleDOI

What is the true origin of the bright red‐orange autofluorescence in the hepatocytes?

TL;DR: The final mechanism by which metformin improved SVR in females remains unclear, and further studies are warranted to elucidate how insulin-sensitizer drugs could improve response in patients with chronic hepatitis C treated with pegylated interferon plus ribavirin.
Journal ArticleDOI

Histochemical localization of glycolytic enzymes, alcohol and secondary-alcohol dehydrogenases in the testes of buffaloes, goats and rams

TL;DR: The activities of all enzymes other than αGPDHC increased during spermiogenesis, and the physiological significance of the results is discussed in relation to the carbohydrate metabolism of the testis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Potential Protection by Antioxidants of the Action of Tobacco Smoke on the Metabolism of Cultured Bovine Lenses

TL;DR: Exposure of cigarette smoke in cultured medium under negative pressure, optical quality of lenses and the structural changes were demonstrated by decreased light transmission, increase in focal length variability and a decrease in morphological integrity such as hyperplasia and hypertrophy of epithelial cells.
