TLDR
In this article, a direct comparison of theoretical predictions and experimental results on instabilities and various stages of dewetting of thin polystyrene films, prepared on silicon wafers with three different nanosized (∼1 nm) coatings, dewet spontaneously above the glass transition temperature by the growth of cylindrical holes with wavy rims.

Dynamics and stability of thin liquid films

TL;DR: The dynamics and stability of thin liquid films have fascinated scientists over many decades: the observations of regular wave patterns in film flows along a windowpane or along guttering, the patterning of dewetting droplets, and the fingering of viscous flows down a slope are all examples that are familiar in daily life.

Wetting: Statics and dynamics

TL;DR: In this article, experimental studies of wetting phenomena have helped to bridge the gap between the progress made in theory and simulation over the past decade, and the experimental evidence or verification of the theoretical predictions.

The dynamics of the piezo inkjet printhead operation

TL;DR: In this paper, the physics behind the two-way coupling from the electrical to the mechanical domain through the piezoelectric actuator, where an electrical signal is transformed into a mechanical deformation of the printhead structure, is discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Wetting at polymer surfaces and interfaces

TL;DR: The authors review progress from the past few years in research into the influence of a boundary in polymer blends, concentrating largely on the wetting transition, and the growth of wetting layers, where they pay particular attention to blends in which hydrodynamic flow plays a dominant role.
Journal ArticleDOI

Electrohydrodynamic instabilities in polymer films

TL;DR: In this article, the influence of electric fields on highly viscous polymer films was studied and an electrohydrodynamic (EHD) instability caused a wave pattern with a characteristic wavelength λ, leading to an array of polymer columns which span the gap of a capacitor device.

Intermolecular and surface forces

TL;DR: The forces between atoms and molecules are discussed in detail in this article, including the van der Waals forces between surfaces, and the forces between particles and surfaces, as well as their interactions with other forces.
