TLDR
The concept of custom power is now becoming familiar as mentioned in this paper and it describes the value-added power that electric utilities and other service providers will offer their customers in the future The improved level of reliability of this power, in terms of reduced interruptions and less variation, will stem from an integrated solution to present problems, of which a prominent feature will be the application of power electronic controllers to utility distribution systems and/or at the supply end of many industrial and commercial customers and industrial parks.
Abstract
Changes in customers' needs require improvements in the reliability and quality of the electricity supply This paper describes how the concept of custom power is now becoming familiar The term describes the value-added power that electric utilities and other service providers will offer their customers in the future The improved level of reliability of this power, in terms of reduced interruptions and less variation, will stem from an integrated solution to present problems, of which a prominent feature will be the application of power electronic controllers to utility distribution systems and/or at the supply end of many industrial and commercial customers and industrial parks >

High-voltage DC transmission: a power electronics workhorse

Narain G. Hingorani
- 01 Apr 1996 -
TL;DR: Thyristor-based HVDC converter technology is used for highly reliable power transfer across natural or national boundaries or between AC systems designed for different frequencies or incompatible frequency controls.

Understanding of dynamic voltage restorers through MATLAB simulation

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors presented the application of dynamic voltage restorers (DVR) on power distribution systems for mitigation of voltage sags/swells at critical loads, which is one of the compensating types of custom power devices.

Dynamic series voltage restoration for sensitive loads in unbalanced power systems

TL;DR: In this paper, a method and apparatus is provided for restoring a sagging voltage signal on a power transmission line, caused by a remote fault in the utility power system, to a balanced three-phase condition at the pre-fault voltage level.

A series compensator with fault current limiting function

TL;DR: In this article, a power converter-based series compensator (SC) can also function as a fault current limiter (FCL) to absorb energy from the external network, which results in an increase in the voltage across the terminals of the SC energy storage system.
