Introduction to Econophysics: Correlations and Complexity in Finance
TLDR
Economists and workers in the financial world will find useful the presentation of empirical analysis methods and well-formulated theoretical tools that might help describe systems composed of a huge number of interacting subsystems.Abstract:
This book concerns the use of concepts from statistical physics in the description of financial systems. The authors illustrate the scaling concepts used in probability theory, critical phenomena, and fully developed turbulent fluids. These concepts are then applied to financial time series. The authors also present a stochastic model that displays several of the statistical properties observed in empirical data. Statistical physics concepts such as stochastic dynamics, short- and long-range correlations, self-similarity and scaling permit an understanding of the global behaviour of economic systems without first having to work out a detailed microscopic description of the system. Physicists will find the application of statistical physics concepts to economic systems interesting. Economists and workers in the financial world will find useful the presentation of empirical analysis methods and well-formulated theoretical tools that might help describe systems composed of a huge number of interacting subsystems.read more

Complex networks: Structure and dynamics
TL;DR: The major concepts and results recently achieved in the study of the structure and dynamics of complex networks are reviewed, and the relevant applications of these ideas in many different disciplines are summarized, ranging from nonlinear science to biology, from statistical mechanics to medicine and engineering.

Community detection in graphs
TL;DR: A thorough exposition of community structure, or clustering, is attempted, from the definition of the main elements of the problem, to the presentation of most methods developed, with a special focus on techniques designed by statistical physicists.

Community detection in graphs
TL;DR: A thorough exposition of the main elements of the clustering problem can be found in this paper, with a special focus on techniques designed by statistical physicists, from the discussion of crucial issues like the significance of clustering and how methods should be tested and compared against each other, to the description of applications to real networks.

Stochastic Differential Equations
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors explore questions of existence and uniqueness for solutions to stochastic differential equations and offer a study of their properties, using diffusion processes as a model of a Markov process with continuous sample paths.

The Pricing of Options and Corporate Liabilities
Fischer Black,Myron S. Scholes +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a theoretical valuation formula for options is derived, based on the assumption that options are correctly priced in the market and it should not be possible to make sure profits by creating portfolios of long and short positions in options and their underlying stocks.

Generalized autoregressive conditional heteroskedasticity

TL;DR: In this paper, a natural generalization of the ARCH (Autoregressive Conditional Heteroskedastic) process introduced in 1982 to allow for past conditional variances in the current conditional variance equation is proposed.

Theory of rational option pricing
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors deduced a set of restrictions on option pricing formulas from the assumption that investors prefer more to less, which are necessary conditions for a formula to be consistent with a rational pricing theory.
