Isolation and Characterization of Novel Alkaliphiles from Bauxite-Processing Waste and Description of Bacillus vedderi sp. nov., a New Obligate Alkaliphile

TLDR
The new isolates appear to be members of the genus Bacillus but 16s rDNA sequence analysis and sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis comparisons of whole cell protein profiles, as well as nutritional, biochemical and morphological traits indicated the new isolate are not members of any validly published Bacillus species.

Journal ArticleDOI

Erratum: Robust demarcation of seventeen distinct Bacillus species clades, proposed as novel Bacillaceae genera, by phylogenomics and comparative genomic analyses: description of Robertmurraya kyonggiensis sp. nov. and proposal for emended genus Bacillus limiting it only to the members of the subtilis and cereus clades of species.

TL;DR: In this paper, a comprehensive phylogenomic and comparative analyses were performed on >300 Bacillus/Bacillaceae genomes to identify conserved signature indels that are specific for each of the identified clades.

Carotenoids found in Bacillus.

TL;DR: Aims: To identify the diversity of pigmented aerobic spore formers found in the environment and to characterize the chemical nature of this pigmentation.

Characterization of alkaliphilic Bacillus strains used in industry: proposal of five novel species.

TL;DR: Twenty alkaliphilic bacterial strains from industrial applications or enzyme studies were subjected to a polyphasic taxonomic investigation, including 16S rRNA gene sequencing, determination of genomic DNA G+C content, DNA-DNA hybridization, fatty acid analysis and standard bacteriological characterization.

Microbially-driven strategies for bioremediation of bauxite residue

TL;DR: A combination of bioaugmentation and biostimulation (addition of nutrients to promote microbial growth and activity) of the native community in bauxite residue is recommended as the approach most likely to be successful in promoting bioremediation of bauxites residue.
Journal ArticleDOI

Bacillus indicus sp. nov., an arsenic-resistant bacterium isolated from an aquifer in West Bengal, India.

TL;DR: Data suggest that Sd/3T represents a novel species of the genus Bacillus, and the name Bacillus indicus sp.

Cleavage of structural proteins during the assemble of the head of bacterio-phage T4

U. K. Laemmli
- 01 Jan 1970 -
TL;DR: Using an improved method of gel electrophoresis, many hitherto unknown proteins have been found in bacteriophage T4 and some of these have been identified with specific gene products as mentioned in this paper.

A rapid alkaline extraction procedure for screening recombinant plasmid DNA

H C Birnboim, +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a procedure for extracting plasmid DNA from bacterial cells is described, which is simple enough to permit the analysis by gel electrophoresis of 100 or more clones per day, yet yields DNA which is pure enough to be digestible by restriction enzymes.

Arapid alkaline extraction procedure forscreening recombinant plasmid DNA

TL;DR: The method is simple enough to permit the analysis by gel electrophoresis of 100 or more clones per day yet yields plasmid DNA which is pure enough to be digestible by restriction enzymes, and achievesequate pH control without using a pH meter.
