Limiting the impact of light pollution on human health, environment and stellar visibility

TLDR
The amount of pollution is strongly dependent on the spectral characteristics of the lamps, with the more environmentally friendly lamps being low pressure sodium, followed by high pressure sodium and most polluting are the lamps with a strong blue emission, like Metal Halide and white LEDs.

The new world atlas of artificial night sky brightness.

TL;DR: The world atlas of zenith artificial night sky brightness is modelled with VIIRS DNB data and calibrated with new high-resolution satellite data and new precision sky brightness measurements, showing that more than 80% of the world and more than 99%" of the U.S. and European populations live under light-polluted skies.

REVIEW: Reducing the ecological consequences of night‐time light pollution: options and developments

TL;DR: The potential consequences for organisms of five management options to reduce night‐time light pollution are examined, including to prevent areas from being artificially lit, limit the duration of lighting, reduce the ‘trespass’ of lighting into areas that are not intended to be lit, and change the intensity of lighting.

Action Spectrum for Melatonin Regulation in Humans: Evidence for a Novel Circadian Photoreceptor

TL;DR: The results suggest that, in humans, a single photopigment may be primarily responsible for melatonin suppression, and its peak absorbance appears to be distinct from that of rod and cone cellphotopigments for vision.
