TLDR
The findings imply that the hormonal requirements for initiation of de novo mineralization of bone may be different from those required for the maintenance of mineralization that was initiated in early fetal life, as in the case of metaphyses.
Abstract
The influence of hypophysectomy (hypox), GH, and TSH on the discrete phases of matrix-induced endochondral bone differentiation was investigated [3H]Thymidine incorporation by proliferating mesenchymal cells on day 3 was inhibited by hypox, but was corrected by GH administration On day 7, 35SO4 incorporation into cartilage proteoglycans was reduced by hypox, but was restored to values higher than controls by GH Calcification of cartilage and bone was monitored by alkaline phosphatase activity, 45Ca incorporation into bone mineral, and total calcium Alkaline phosphatase levels were maximal on day 11 in the controls and declined thereafter; however, the activity of alkaline phosphatase remained elevated in hypox recipients Hypox reduced and delayed the rate and extent of calcification, as reflected by 45Ca incorporation and total calcium, respectively The administration of GH and TSH alone and in combination restored 45Ca incorporation to control values in tibial metaphyses but not in the matrix-induc

Identification of endothelin-1 in the pathophysiology of metastatic adenocarcinoma of the prostate.

TL;DR: It is shown that plasma immunoreactive endothelin concentrations are significantly elevated in men with metastatic prostate cancer and that every human prostate cancer cell line tested producesendothelin–1 messenger RNA and secretes immunore active endotheli.

Purification and partial amino acid sequence of osteogenin, a protein initiating bone differentiation.

TL;DR: Osteogenin was purified from bovine bone matrix and its activity monitored by an in vivo bone induction assay and the amino acid sequences of a number of tryptic peptides of the gel-eluted material were determined.

Immediate bone forming capability of prefabricated osteogenic hydroxyapatite

TL;DR: Results indicate that the inherent osteogenic ability of marrow stromal stem cells in pore regions of HA can be stimulated using tissue culture technology; and thus, formed osteogenic HA can show immediate osteoblastic activity in in vivo situations, suggesting the applicability of the HA in clinical situations.

A study of the conditions and mechanism of the diphenylamine reaction for the colorimetric estimation of deoxyribonucleic acid

TL;DR: The present study arose from the observation that a more intense colour was sometimes produced if, instead of being heated at 1000 for 10 min., the reaction mixture was allowed to stand overnight at room temperature.
