Measuring the efficiency of decision making units

TLDR
A nonlinear (nonconvex) programming model provides a new definition of efficiency for use in evaluating activities of not-for-profit entities participating in public programs and methods for objectively determining weights by reference to the observational data for the multiple outputs and multiple inputs that characterize such programs.

Synthetic Indicators of Quality of Life in Europe

TL;DR: In this article, the advantages and disadvantages of three possible methodologies for obtaining synthetic indicators for the area of welfare and quality of life are analyzed, namely Principal Components Analysis, Data Envelopment Analysis and Measure of Distance P2.

Data Envelopment Analysis as Nonparametric Least Squares Regression

TL;DR: It is shown that DEA can be alternatively interpreted as nonparametric least-squares regression subject to shape constraints on the frontier and sign constraints on residuals, which reveals the classic parametric programming model by Aigner and Chu as a constrained special case of DEA.

Measuring gains in operational efficiency from information technology: a study of the Positran deployment at Hardee's Inc.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a new approach to measure the input productivity gains from information technology (it) in complex managerial environments, illustrated in the context of a study of a pilot deployment at Hardee's Inc. of a new cash register point-of-sale and order-coordination technology called "Positran".

Costs and efficiency of higher education institutions in England: A DEA analysis

TL;DR: The paper finds that further student number increases of the order of 20–27% are feasible through exploiting operating and scale efficiency gains and also adjusting student mix and uses a Malmquist index approach to assess productivity change in the UK higher education.

Theory of cost and production functions

TL;DR: In this article, a unified treatment of cost and production functions underlie the economic theory of production is presented, and the duality between cost function and production function is developed by introducing a cost correspondence, showing that these two functions are given in terms of each other by dual minimum problems.

Cost and production functions

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a mathematical interpretation of the duality between cost and production function, and present a heuristic principle of minimum costs and a Cobb-Douglas production function.
