Microstructure and evolution of mechanically-induced ultrafine grain in surface layer of AL-alloy subjected to USSP

TLDR
In this paper, the authors investigated the UFG microstructures in the surface layer of an aluminum alloy 7075 heavily worked by ultrasonic shot peening and found that the grain subdivision into the subgrains was the main mechanism responsible for grain refinement.

The effect of surface nanocrystallization on plasma nitriding behaviour of AISI 4140 steel

TL;DR: In this article, a plastic deformation surface layer with nanocrystalline grains was produced on AISI 4140 steel by means of surface mechanical attrition treatment (SMAT), which was carried out by a low-frequency pulse excited plasma unit.

The effect of surface contamination on corrosion performance of ultrasonic shot peened 7150 Al alloy

TL;DR: In this paper, a surface contamination layer was induced on AA 7150 surface during ultrasonic shot peening (USSP) treatment and its exfoliation evolution in solution containing HCl was investigated using immersion test, electrochemical impedance spectra (EIS), scanning kelvin probe force microscopy (SKPFM), SEM with energydispersive X-ray spectroscopy, XRD and TEM.

Effects of surface nanocrystallization on the corrosion behaviors of 316L and alloy 690

TL;DR: In this article, surface nanocrystallization was used to prepare nanostructured surface layers on alloys used in nuclear power plant steam generators (SGs) to improve the corrosion resistance.

Study of the surface nanocrystallization induced by the esonix ultrasonic impact treatment on the near-surface of 2024-T351 aluminum alloy

TL;DR: In this paper, a nanocrystalline surface layer of Al alloy induced by the Esonix Ultrasonic Impact Treatment process was studied by advanced electron microscopes, and the results revealed that the process can effectively refine the surface coarse grains into equiaxed nanocrystine grains (grain size: 8.0-10.0 nm) and elongated microbands (15-20 nm wide).

Microstructure characterisation of magnetic pulse welded AA6061-T6 by electron backscattered diffraction

TL;DR: In this paper, the grain boundary misorientations of magnetic pulse welded (MPW) AA6061-T6 in linear and tubular configurations were examined using the electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD) technique.

The process of grain refinement in equal-channel angular pressing

TL;DR: In this article, experiments were conducted on high purity aluminum to investigate the process of grain refinement during equal-channel angular (ECA) pressing, where samples were subjected to 1 to 4 pressings and then sectioned for microstructural examination in three mutually perpendicular directions.

Structure and properties of ultrafine-grained materials produced by severe plastic deformation

TL;DR: In this article, the formation of a special grain boundary phase, i.e., a thin near-boundary layer with high dynamic activity of atoms, has been found, leading to the manifestation of promising new elastic, strength, superplastic, damping and magnetic properties of UFG materials.

Overview no. 96: Evolution of F.C.C. deformation structures in polyslip

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the microstructural evolution during polyslip in f.c.m.d. metals and showed that there are differences in the number and selection of simultaneously acting slip systems among neighboring volume elements of individual grains.
