TLDR
The role of distinct neural substrates as targets for developing/assessing novel therapeutic approaches that are geared towards cognitive regulation of emotion, as well as the importance of transdiagnostic research to identify both disorder specific and core mechanisms, are highlighted.

Non-invasive vagal nerve stimulation enhances cognitive emotion regulation.

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS) on cognitive emotion regulation was examined using a computer-based emotion regulation task, and the results indicated that participants receiving active taVNS compared to sham were better at using cognitive reappraisal and rated their response to emotion-eliciting pictures as less intense.
Journal ArticleDOI

Changes in functional connectivity with cognitive behavioral therapy for social anxiety disorder predict outcomes at follow-up.

TL;DR: Results suggest that strengthened amygdala connectivity with regulatory regions may promote better long-term outcomes, whereas changes with visual and sensorimotor regions may represent sensitization to emotion-related cues, conferring poorer outcomes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Pupil dilation predicts individual self-regulation success across domains.

TL;DR: In this paper, the role of the arousal system in emotion regulation is studied and it is found that participants who harnessed more regulation-associated arousal during emotion regulation were also more successful in choosing healthier foods.
Journal ArticleDOI

Viewing Nonsuicidal Self-Injury in Adolescence Through a Developmental Neuroscience Lens: The Impact of Neural Sensitivity to Socioaffective Pain and Reward:

TL;DR: In this paper, the prevalence of non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) without the intent to die was found to be high risk and impairing behavior associated with long-term morbidity and mortality risks.
Journal ArticleDOI

Enhancing Cognitive Restructuring with Concurrent Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation: A Transdiagnostic Randomized Controlled Trial.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors developed and tested a one-time intervention that integrates behavioral skills training with concurrent repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) for transdiagnostic emotional dysregulation.

Control of goal-directed and stimulus-driven attention in the brain

TL;DR: Evidence for partially segregated networks of brain areas that carry out different attentional functions is reviewed, finding that one system is involved in preparing and applying goal-directed selection for stimuli and responses, and the other is specialized for the detection of behaviourally relevant stimuli.

Cognitive Therapy of Depression

TL;DR: Hollon and Shaw as discussed by the authors discuss the role of emotions in Cognitive Therapy and discuss the integration of homework into Cognitive Therapy, and discuss problems related to Termination and Relapse.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cognitive therapy of depression: pretreatment patient predictors of outcome.

TL;DR: In this article, a review examines the role of patient predictors of outcome in cognitive therapy of depression and finds that high pretreatment severity scores are associated with poorer response to cognitive therapy, as are high chronicity, younger age at onset, an increased number of previous episodes, and marital status.
