New radiating mode in a Cylindrical DRA to produce broadside high gain radiation

TLDR
In this article, the authors explored the possibility of exciting a new resonant mode (HEM12δ) as a radiating mode giving broadside high gain pattern at resonance.
Abstract
Several resonant modes are known in a Cylindrical Dielectric Resonator (CDR), where only two could be used for antenna or radiation purpose. In this paper, we have explored the possibility of exciting a new one (HEM12δ mode) as a radiating mode giving broadside high gain pattern at resonance. New suitable feeding scheme is introduced along with physical insight into the operation of this new DRA is presented.

Computed Modal Field Distributions of Isolated Dielectric Resonators

TL;DR: In this paper, the electric and magnetic fields inside and outside of an isolated dielectric resonator were evaluated using a surface integral equation model. And the resulting field plots permit a positive mode identification, and are useful in designing devices to enhance coupling of or to suppress various modes.
