Experimental and theoretical temperature distributions in a solar pond

TL;DR: In this paper, an experimental and theoretical investigation of temperature distributions in an insulated solar pond, particularly during daytimes and nighttimes, is presented, where several temperature sensors connected to a data acquisition are placed vertically inside and the bottom of the pond and also horizontally and vertically in the insulated side walls, and used to measure temperature changes with time and position.
Journal ArticleDOI

Comparatively study between single-phase and two-phase modes of energy extraction in a salinity-gradient solar pond power plant

TL;DR: In this paper, an enhanced design of a large scale SGSP power plant using some two-phase closed thermosyphons has been simulated and compared with the single-phase mode heat transfer.
Journal ArticleDOI

Investigations of thermohydrodynamic instabilities and ground storage in a solar pond by simulation model

TL;DR: In this article, a simulation model of thermal behavior of a salt gradient solar pond is presented, which explicitly incorporates the effect of salinity and temperature on the thermophysical parameters (K,ϱ, C ) of pond water and takes into account the heat and mass transfer processes at the pond surface.
Journal ArticleDOI

Solar pond literature analysis

TL;DR: A survey of papers on salt gradient solar ponds published in periodicals as well as ISES conferences and other notable solar energy conferences is conducted in this article, where the main solar pond R&D areas are identified and classified into 9 main categories and 11 sub-categories.

An analysis of the non-convecting solar pond

TL;DR: In this paper, the thermal behavior of a nonconvecting solar pond is examined by numerical solution of the dynamic equations, incorporating detailed representation of the losses from the surface and using hourly meteorological data for a site in southern England.
Journal ArticleDOI

A study on the transient behaviour of solar ponds

TL;DR: In this article, the transient behaviour of solar ponds has been investigated using a finite difference formulation and the effect of various parameters such as thickness of the layer with density gradient has a profound effect on the performance of a solar pond and an increase of the thickness from 1 to 2m increases substantially the operating temperature for the same overall efficiency.
Journal ArticleDOI

Constant flow solar pond collector/storage system

TL;DR: In this article, a periodic analysis of the process of heat extraction by the brine layer circulating at constant flow rate through the bottom convective zone of a solar pond is presented.
