Integrating storage location and order picking problems in warehouse planning

TL;DR: A General Variable Neighborhood Search metaheuristic is presented, which is observed to be very efficient for those small instances of storage location and order picking and significantly improves solutions generated by common storage policies.

Simulation-based decision support tool for in-house logistics: the basis for a digital twin

TL;DR: In this article, a simulation-based decision support tool for in-house logistics that analyses the activities that can occur in both a distribution facility and a production facility towards logistics 4.0 is proposed.
Journal ArticleDOI

A Novel Tabu Search Algorithm for Multi-AGV Routing Problem

TL;DR: The experimental results show that the tabu search algorithm can effectively optimize the order of pickup points, which could further reduce the total travel distance and improve the efficiencies of AGVs in automatic warehouses.

Energy Consumption in a Distributional Warehouse: A Practical Case Study for Different Warehouse Technologies

TL;DR: It is shown that a significant part of the energy is spent on maintaining a warehouse building, especially in the case of facilities with a low degree of automation, and a methodology for estimating storage space and determining energy consumption is proposed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Integrated production planning and warehouse storage assignment problem: An IoT assisted case

TL;DR: The results show that the integrated strategy with a randomized storage policy can significantly reduce the total cost and increase space utilization and provide evidence that may justify the cost of applying the new technologies, such as IoT-enabled tracking systems, in warehouse management.

Design and control of warehouse order picking: A literature review

TL;DR: In this paper, a literature overview on typical decision problems in design and control of manual order-picking processes is given, focusing on optimal (internal) layout design, storage assignment methods, routing methods, order batching and zoning.

Solution of a Large-Scale Traveling-Salesman Problem

TL;DR: The RAND Corporation in the early 1950s contained Arrow, Bellman, Dantzig, Flood, Ford, Fulkerson, Gale, Johnson, Nash, Orchard-Hays, Robinson, Shapley, Simon, Wagner, and other household names as discussed by the authors.

Discussion of a set of points in terms of their mutual distances

TL;DR: In this article, necessary and sufficient conditions are given for a set of numbers to be the mutual distances of real points in Euclidean space, and matrices are found whose ranks determine the dimension of the smallest space containing such points, and methods for determining the configuration of these points and for approximating to them by points in a space of lower dimensionality.
