TLDR
Isotope analyses of Os, Sr, Nd, and Pb elements were caried out on twelve peridotite xenoliths from the Jagersfontein, Letseng-la-terae, Thaba Patsoa, Mothae, and Premier kimberlites of southern Africa, to investigate the timing and the nature of melt extraction from the continental lithosphere and its relation to the continent formation and stabilization.

The geochemical evolution of the continental crust

TL;DR: A survey of the dimensions and composition of the present continental crust is given in this paper, where it is concluded that at least 60% of the crust was emplaced by the late Archean (ca. 2.7 eons).
Journal ArticleDOI

Melting of Garnet Peridotite and the Origin of Komatiite and Depleted Lithosphere

TL;DR: In this paper, a pyrolitic GPa from a mantle enriched in SiO2 relative to pyrolite was made from 3 to 7 GPa in piston-cylinder and multi-anvil apparatus.
Journal ArticleDOI

Making continental crust

Roberta L. Rudnick
- 07 Dec 1995 -
TL;DR: The continental crust has an andesitic bulk composition, which cannot have been produced by the basaltic magmatism that dominates sites of present-day crustal growth as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI

Petrology and geochemistry of Camiguin Island, southern Philippines: insights to the source of adakites and other lavas in a complex arc setting

TL;DR: Camiguin is a small volcanic island located 12 km north of Mindanao Island in southern Philippines as mentioned in this paper, which is the most likely source of Camiguin and most CMA magmas is the mantle wedge metasomatized by fluids dehydrated from a subducted slab.

THE Re-Os ISOTOPE SYSTEM IN COSMOCHEMISTRY AND HIGH-TEMPERATURE GEOCHEMISTRY

TL;DR: The Re-Os isotope sytem, based on the long-lived β− transition of 187Re to 187Os, has matured to wide use in cosmochemistry and high-temperature geochemistry as discussed by the authors.

Rhenium-Osmium Isotope Systematics of Carbonaceous Chondrites

TL;DR: The isotopic composition of Semarkona could reflect assembly of isotopically heterogeneous components subsequent to 4.55 billion years ago or Os isotopic heterogeneities in the primordial solar nebula.

Latter-day origin of diamonds of eclogitic paragenesis

TL;DR: Eclogitic garnet and clinopyroxene inclusions in Premier and Argyle diamonds yield Sm-Nd isochron ages of 1,150 and 1,580 Myr, respectively, compared with host diatreme emplacement ages9,10 of approximately 1,100-1,200 Myr as discussed by the authors.

Densities of fertile and sterile garnet peridotites

TL;DR: In this article, the densities of a fertile peridotite (PHN 1611) and a depleted sterile peridotsite(PHN 1569) have been calculated from the cell dimensions of the component minerals, the mineral analyses, and the bulk rock analyses.

Kimberlite-borne garnet peridotite xenoliths from old enriched subcontinental lithosphere

TL;DR: In this article, high-temperature deformed garnet lherzolite xenoliths from mantle beneath the northern Lesotho margin of the Archaean craton in southern Africa are inferred to have been in internal Nd and Sr isotopic equilibrium at the time of sampling by kimberlite 90 Ma ago.
